Sustained Success

NAS

Rams have had four straight winning seasons after not winning for 12 years (2004-2016).

They haven’t won the SB yet but they have the right coach and culture in place for sustained success.

What is your confidence level that David Tepper and Matt Rhule can have this organization finally winning every year?

I am of the opinion that we can have our first winning season in 2021 and maybe sneak into the playoffs and become a perennial contender thereafter.  Of course a lot depends on the QB situation, the draft and how we manage free agency and our cap.

get lance or wilson , we got a solid player in cmac , resign dj moore , let samuel walk and upgrade him in free agency , get a dang tight end . keep building the defense . we have a ton of money in free agency this year and i will  LOSE MY COOL like the rest of you should if we dont spend in free agency

McVay had success right out of the gate. Rhule and Tepper has 4 wins this season and a QB who is a great backup.

McVay came into a better situation where he was the missing piece. It was not a complete tear down like here. Remember that Rams were a popular pick every year to make the playoffs but Jeff Fisher did what he does best - underachieve.

we got a good coach , we need a qb  and some defense . next year better be playoffs idc and the year after superbowl contenders . we been rebuilding since 2017

I disagree on the rebuilding since 2017.  We have been patching things together believing we were one or two players away from 2017 -2019.  Had we been rebuilding, we would not have been going after veterans in FA, like McCoy, Paradis, etc.  Those were moves of desperation to try and have one more push, and it failed.

This was the first year we bit the bullet and went in full-on rebuilding mode.

I like what I see and hear from Rhule, but it is one year.  Still, what he did was consistent with his pattern.  I need to see a solid offseason toward building a sustained roster of talent.  We have a lot of holes to fill.  That's usually what happens when you spend a few years thinking you are a couple of players away and then proving that wrong on the field.  Eventually, the roster ages out, injuries take their toll, players move on, and somebody is stuck cleaning up the mess.

I'd just feel better if the guy who couldn't patch things together was not involved in the rebuild.

Our O-Line and D are nowhere near the level we need to be at to be a yearly contender. All you guys who think a QB will magically fix that are delusional. This team has a long way to go. I mean ... if Cam couldn't do it yearly, why would Lance or Clausen 2.0 be able to?

Cam went to the playoffs 4 out of 5 years and got us to a SB and only had a top/healthy OL in one of those years. If Teddy was a healthy Cam this year or a good rookie like Burrow/Herbert, we’d be better than we are even with a patchwork OL. Teddy’s missed multiple opportunities in a few close games. A QB who could take advantage of wide open WRs and not make them slow down, go out of bounds or get hurt would be a blessing.

McVay also inherited an immensely talented but underperforming team.

Going into this season, the Panthers had on paper arguably the weakest roster in the league, so I don't think the situations McVay & Rhule inherited were remotely the same.

That being said, I do believe most if not all coaches who prove to be elite in the NFL find a way to win in their first 2 seasons.

With another good draft & free agency along with CMC hopefully staying healthy next year, the expectation should be the playoffs, especially when you consider the cap shape the Saints & Falcons face along with the inevitable departure of talent in Tampa and Brady being 44 next year.

IMO the idea of multi-year rebuilds are propaganda to appease the fanbase for the most part.

The NFL landscape changes dramatically over 2 years time.  Good coaches and management can build the right way and still have success within the first 2 years.

The QB Savior talk is a bit overrated to me, personally, I feel that we absolutely have to get some offensive lineman in place. The line has been awful at times this year, and I would rather not have a rookie getting wrecked like Burrow this year. As far as defense, we are a few pieces away, but honestly in way better shape than I thought coming into the season. Still probably at least a solid 2 years away, but will most likely over compensate again next season and sneak into the playoffs. As far as sustained success, as others have said way, Way, way too early to tell.

That's a question year 4 into Rhule as a HC, as by then we will fully know what we are getting with him. He could have teams playing hard and exceeding expectations or could fall flat and start becoming super conservative where a punt is a good play. Remember, this year is more about evaluation than anything as is every coaches first year, plus the current craziness that is everyday life equals a large amount of turnover again after the season. Will be interesting to see how we look not next year but the year after when we have some real 'culture' set in place.

We'll see. I think it's way too early in the process to feel confident one way or the other.

That's fair, though I think I've seen more from Rhule to be excited about than I ever saw from Rivera early on. We badly need QB to be solved though. No we don't need a Mahomes type QB and Goff isn't elite, but he is a steady and consistent solid QB and we need at least that. Hope it's in this upcoming draft.

We'd be in the hunt for a playoff berth with a legit franchise QB.
