Is Zach Wilson becoming the consensus Huddle pick?

Outside of Lawrence, I can find fault with all of the others.  Wilson, who is the subject of this thread, is rising just like Burrows did, but he scares me a bit with injury history and I just see him getting killed in Carolina and many other places.  Fields now has his game being called into question and Lance is very mobile and throws a great deep ball, but taking the year off essentially and questions about his ability to run Bradys offense give me pause there.

I get nervous drafting this high when there is about a 50% bust rate on QB's

Given enough time we could likely even find faults with Lawrence. I mean, his backup played other worldly as well. The only reason they aren’t undefeated is because of their defense.

Not just no, but HELL No! Do not want. Kid has smartass MAGA Chud faux swag Jimmy Pickles written all over him.

Lawrence then Lance then Fields, in that order. Wilson shouldn’t even be on our board.

As much as I disagree agree with you that is an accurate summation.

Just to clarify. They were missing numerous defensive starters in the first ND game.

But yeah, offensively they hardly kissed a heat without Lawrence. IMO, that's the knock on Lawrence. His supporting cast is almost always head and shoulders above the competition. Last year against LSU when it wasn't he looked bad.

If we remain at our present draft spot I want to select QB Zach Wilson if he is still on the board. After starting 18 games in 2018 and 2019 combined with adequate production,

he has been outstanding in 2020 in the new-school way of playing the quarterback position: pocket-passing brilliance coupled with incredible improvisation, off-script throws from awkward foundations downfield and creative weaves through traffic as a scrambler.

He's completed 73.1% of his passes at 10.9 yards per attempt in an Cougar offense that loves to attack vertically. Wilson's tossed 30 touchdowns to just three picks and has eight rushing scores on his resume. What's not to like?

I'd rather had cannon arm Lance over Wilson. I don't think Wilson looks like a top 10 pick.

This year has made super nostalgic for when we had Cam before Rivera mismanaged and wrecked his shoulder.

I've not watched Lance, but I have Wilson and I personally think he's a slightly better Will Grier.

Will Grier demolished the Big 12 (I'm a WVU fan and watched him play- although I didn't like drafting him last year b/c I thought we should have spent on other needs), but I think it became apparent last year that the lack of defense being played in the Big 12 did him no favors in the NFL.

I personally see the same issue with Wilson, but I'm no NFL scout.

You can't teach arm strength, especially when the QB has to make "off-platform" throws.  Teddy has the functional strength to push the ball down the field when he can set, but he's not throwing 50 yarders on the run like Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, Herbert, Josh Allen, etc.

It's just puts so much more pressure on the defense.

Wilson to me looks like the most polished pocket passer outside of Lawrence, but again, so did Grier.  There were many people (Mel Kiper included) who thought Grier was a better prospect than Daniel Jones.

My biggest concern with Wilson is much like Grier, his ability to make "off-schedule" plays.

Most guys going at the top of the draft are going to teams with unsettled offensive lines.  Cam would not have been able to make it here his first few seasons without his improvisation ability (he still got hit an insane amount).

I just think that in the current NFL, the younger guys having the most success are the guys with mobility and big arms, even if their pocket mechanics are not always textbook.

A good coach can teach a lot of things.  Arm strength and mobility aren't it.

If you only judge Fields on that Northwestern game, hed be a UDFA.

Yep.  I had been higher on Fields before that game.  And maybe it was only one game, but he in no way looked like a guy who was worthy of a top 10 pick.  Fields looked much more like the next Dewayne Haskins than being a franchise guy.

I’d still take Fields in a heartbeat.   Think Ohio St had 23 and 22 guys out the last two games.  That a lot of shaking things up and uncertainty.

total body of work matters more than a game.   Fields still looks special and there are only 2 QBs who hit that special range IMO.

I think it is

Trevor

a small gap

Fields

a large gap

then the rest

And a TL comes a long once in a decade.  So the gap between him and Fields doesn’t even matter really.
