Texans appear SERIOUS about building a contender in Houston.

I won't post the entire article since it isn't Panther related, but it is interesting.

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/texans/article/Tony-Dungy-Jimmy-Johnson-Texans-advisory-committee-15783477.php

Pro Football Hall of Fame coaches Tony Dungy and Jimmy Johnson are on Texans owner Cal McNair’s five-person advisory group with Andre Johnson, Fritz Pollard Alliance executive director Rod Graves and longtime San Antonio Spurs general manager R.C. Buford.

Jimmy Johnson won two Super Bowls coaching the Cowboys. Dungy won a Super Bowl with Indianapolis. They’ve stayed close to the NFL in their broadcasting duties with Fox (Johnson) and NBC (Dungy).

Buford has been a longtime executive with the Spurs who helped them win five NBA championships under coach Gregg Popovich. Buford has been their CEO the past two years. McNair said he asked Buford to be on the committee because he’s admired the Spurs’ consistent success and organizational structure.

------

We have no idea how this will turn out, but I have to admire the fact that Mr. McNair is looking to surround himself with proven winners to help guide this team through the next decade.

Ironically, the other NFL owner in Texas should be doing this  (cough, Jerry Jones, cough) will continue to lead the Cowboys down the road to mediocrity.

Could you guys ever see Tepper setting up such a committee to guide him in a GM and/or Head coaching search?

How do you feel about the idea of such a committee in general for any sports franchise?

Proverbs 12:15 "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,
But he who heeds counsel is wise."

When they were doing the head coaching search that culminated in the hiring of Matt Rhule, Tepper seemed to indicate that he wasn't interested in using search firms or consultants, so it doesn't sound like he'd go this route.

I personally think it's a good idea, though.

Team was trending up several years ago. But ever since old man McNair made those racist comments - hard to believe anyone with class or dignity would still want to play for his family.

Why does every fuging thing come back to race for you? Do you not realize how pathetic you sound? This comment alone is fine but literally every damn thing you post, man.

Johnson last won a superbowl a quarter century ago, and was last seen having a 70 burger dropped on him by the jags.

dungy fled tampa to a HOF QB to win his SB. the only thing he accomplished on his own was driving his son to suicide.

Oh boy

    • Yeah and he succeeded at an even higher level in LA with an even better surrounding cast. Goff is a guy that isn't really able to dramatically elevate players around him but he can make a good situation even better. He is capable of that. Some QB's aren't. I am not sure Dak is able to do that and he is in a similar "class" as Goff, IMO.
    • i think i could handle that for a year. beyond that....i don't know.  back where we lived, when we had a few inches of snow, it might have been a couple feet because we weren't getting out and doing anything. i remember times where power would go out for days on end. we had propane and electric heat, depending on the floor. basement (had a couple bedrooms and a living room and kitchen down there) and main floor had gas logs. main floor gas logs was enough to take care of the upstairs, so we could stay warm and cook on the grill when we needed. we had a well so that was always an issue when the power went out. had to make sure tubs were filled with water for the toilets and we had gallons of water for drinking and cooking available. always had to make sure we were ready. that wasn't always the case. we had a couple moments where we were going through propane quickly and because we were dealing with the worst propane company in the world (amerigas) they wouldn't get out to put gas in our 900 gallon tank. made for some nerve racking moments.  i know y'all were probably a lot more able to handle that kind of thing, but after the little bit (comparatively) that we got here i just have no desire to get trapped again. maybe for a day or two a year get snowed in and i'm good.
    • I think he is just drawing a DC to them line and that's about as far as his thought process went. It makes almost no sense outside of that. Also, it doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh or Seattle at this juncture either.  I think our "veteran" pool is basically gonna be the Dalton/Flacco tier or the "pick your poison" options of young busts(Jones/Z. Wilson) or wild, TO prone gunslingers(Darnold/Winston/etc). We have the option to pursue I genuinely believe(depending on the way the rest of this season goes), we either draft a QB in the top 10 or resign Dalton. Outlier third option on taking one of the wild gunslingers that Dave feels like he can work with.
