If we take a Round 1 QB, A few OT options that could be Gems

Day 2

Round 2:

·        Walker Little, LT, Stanford.  Little sat out this season after being injured for the 2019 season.  In my opinion, he might drop out of the first round in the NFL draft as a result.  I see him being drafted in the late first round to mid second round, but Little is above average edge protector vs speed rushers, OK vs power rushers (my estimate),  and an above average run blocker for a LT.  He loses his feet on occasion, but the effort is there—the video is from his sophomore year—I think we need a Little at LT—Walker, not Greg. I would take him in round 2.

·        Christian Darrisaw, LT Virginia Tech.  Long and Lean, has good athleticism. Has been rising up boards this fall.  Can bend at waist at times, needs better feet.  Scouts seem to like him.  I think he is has late second to early third round talent, but some smarter than me like him in the late first. I don’t see it, fwiw:  #77:

Round 3:

·        Dillon Radunz, LT, North Dakota State.  He simply does not give up sacks or pressures, but Lance is his qb and they do not hold it long in the backfield.  Yet he seems to have all the tools.  Good in the run game.  Lesser competition, obviously, but he dominates.  He is as solid as any day 2 LT I have seen in a while, and he may have second-round value—I do not see it, but I think he could start soon and because of his small-school status, he could be a third round steal.

·        Obinna Eze, LT, Memphis.  A raw LT with a lot of athleticism, Eze is a natural blind side pass protector and there is nothing special in the run game at this time.  It is not ideal to take a developmental player when you need a starter, but if he drops to the third round, I think you can put him there if he is not asked to do too much.  He was recruited to go to Bama, and was a basketball player. He is very tall (6-8) and has good feet and strong hands.  #77:

Day 3

Round 4:

·        Spencer Brown, RT.   He is 6’9” and 320 lbs and bench presses 500.  Has good hands, good awareness, slowish feet on occasion, and plays a bit high at times.  He is a project to some degree, but he could be a stud RT in the NFL for a decade, according to some NFL/college scout sources available online.  If we do not lock down Moton long term—and we tag him instead, this guy could learn for a year and be ready in 2022.   He could be a backup RT/RG at the least.

A lot of these 2nd and 3rd round projection guys will rise to early 2nd and mid to late 1st. Tackles always rise by draft day so hopefully we have our 2nd round pick by #40.

And if this draft is anything like recent drafts, the best OL will probably come out of the second tier prospects. The elite prospects have been busting left and right, quite literally.

Don't forget Daniel Faalele. Super intriguing prospect. 6'9" 400 pounds is insane. Very raw former Australian rugby player but the physical talent is undeniable.

I did not want to put too many on here--that size is insane, and it made me question how he would do with speed rushers---but I was looking for small schoolers and a few gems that may fall for some reason. Little, for example, has not played in 2 years. I will take a look. I need to watch some of his videos--I have not yet.

Yeah, that makes it tough in Dec---this is based on the fact that scouting and visits could be minimal with the virus and some players have opted out for this season---do you risk a first rounder on Walker Little, for example, who has not played since 2018?

Darrisaw will be a 1st rounder. Walker Little, if he didn’t opted out would be another 1st rounder.

Darrisaw is getting some hype as a first rounder--you are probably right about that--but as people rise, others fall.  A lot can happen between now and then.  I have watched him and I am not impressed yet, but others are blown away by him.  I need to see more.

What would you do?  By the write up it seems Little has mediocre written all over him.

I like the ones that are mentioned to be very athletic.  Those guys usually take good coaching and can improve.

It will be interesting to see the combines on these players.

Like Greg Little?

Little was rated (on the sites I read) as a boom or bust candidate--that always scares me.  I understood the move to get him, which is what happens when you enter a draft with a specific shopping list---BPA?  Not even close. And Marty tried to get into the first round to get him.  What would that have cost us?

I know if I was a GM on another team and my phone rang and it said, "Panthers" above the number, I would answer it and do some dealing.

I was being sarcastic.

As I recall, Marty stated at the time that the first three picks (Burns, Little, Grier) were need picks and they were going BPA afterward.
