Well to be fair, national perception didn't have Mitch Trubisky ahead of Patrick Mahomes and DeShaun watson, but the Bears perception did.

I'm always reluctant to try to predict what bad teams are going to do. Worth noting that the Jags will have a new general manager at that time, and he might want to make a splash.

Wilson doesn't say "splash" to me, but Fields does.

good point about what bad teams do.  I haven't watch one bit of film on Fields since I thought he wouldn't fall to us.  I'm liking Wilson a lot, and Fields' bad game last week has me even more unsettled about what QB will be available at our pick.

Dane Brugler's first mock had the Jags taking Wilson and Fields dropping to us at six.

The idea is out there in the national consciousness at least.

Definitely worth remembering that if you're looking at somebody to run our current scheme, you're probably seeking a steady "game manager" type more so than a big play guy.

Mind you, I don't say that as an endorsement of one quarterback over another. It's just something you have to take into account when you're evaluating.

Great point. Plus we probably played ourselves out of a "top 3" in a QB thirsty QB heavy draft.

I remember someone here saying to wait until this year to get a QB. Props because there are some good/great ones AND sleepers we need to keep out of N.O.

The only thing is when the level of competition changes who will you be? I wish I could have seen him against better competition. Some have said his scheme is outstanding and has something to do with it. If so we're in Cam territory.

Lance is a pure football player like Cam. He even chased down a CB on a turnover just like Cam. In hindsight we'd all tackle Cam before he went out of his way to chase a CB after lazy Benjamin gave up.

When I hear scheme, that makes me think, build an offense around this player. Tre is that guy. Unfortunately we played ourselves. The top teams are QB thirsty. I don't know about Wilson but again, top tier competition will be a different world for some of these guys.

I've got other guys ahead of Wilson because of that. To me as far as NFL ready in two totally but equal ways is Lance, because he's now 6'4"(just saw update), and he has jets and a cannon like Cam. We already saw a OC waste Cam Newton trying to change him protect him, I kind of understand in hindsight though. We never felt we ever saw Cam schemed for properly since Chud(2012?). Is Brady ready to scheme for Lance like we should have schemed FOR Cam? I don't know.

Since we played ourselves out of making the decision on Lance my equal but different reasons choice is Trask. We'll probably be in the 8-10 range. And I'm a QB thirsty Panther.

I don't think anybody at this point is projecting Lance over Fields.

A couple of guys have projected Wilson over Fields as a possibility, but not Lance.

I just can't put Wilson that high, just me. Pickles flashback. Just me though. I'm uncertain for some reason.

Oh, there's the combine and the fact some are questioning the fact that Fields has a better cast of characters. Maybe. I see a couple guys moving up, especially after the season is said and done.

You keep saying that and I’m not sure I agree. We’ve had so many routes open deep and Burrow wasn’t exactly a check down QB at LSU. Unfortunately, watching Teddy may give you a false impression. I’m not saying you can get a guy with a slow release and a deep arm, but that having a QB that could hit some of those deep plays and would surely open this offense up. It’s kind of like the silly we have to build up the team before getting a QB argument. It’s not an either or, it can be both. A QB is one draft pick, it won’t stop building the rest of the team and that QB doesn’t have to be a game manager without big play ability.

I hate when this play is brought up. That was 100% the refs fault. The NFL was supposed to be calling things to keep players safe and turnovers are times when bad hits happen (remember TD’s suspension?). For whatever reason the refs never did that for Cam, ever.

KB wasn’t lazy on that play. It was ridiculously obvious that he touched the CB and knew it. The ref was right there, that play should have been whistled dead immediately and we see that all the time where the blow the play dead sometimes when it isn’t. The play got overturned and the CB was ruled down and I remember watching and saying he was already down.  Dangerous play that had no business continuing. I will absolutely give KB the benefit of the doubt that he knew he touched the guy and that the play was over and would be called back like it was.

I’m not defending the rest of his career and his mental collapse but I don’t give him any fault on that play and I also think if he was healthy the way he looked in training camp, we win the SB or at least have a chance to win until the refs call some phantom penalty negating our GW play.

Game manager doesn't necessarily mean no big play ability.

While I know many West Coast quarterbacks have been weak armed, not all of them are.

I'll have to go back and look. I thought I remembered KB kinda pulling up and the CB finishing his route a split second before KB was out of bounds.

While I am not that high on him, Mac Jones is going to creep into round 1 by April.  Mark my words!!

My predictions for QBs in round 1 (which means this will never happen):

1. Jacksonville (Lawrence gets loud and the Jets and Jags trade picks or players after draft--a la Eli Manning, NYGiants-SD Chargers)

2. NY Jets:   Fields

3. Detroit:  Wilson (This is my prediction:  The Lions trade Stafford to Patriots for their second rounder and use the pick to draft BYU's Wilson)

4. Washington:  Haskins will be dealt to a team like the Bears for a 4th rounder or so, and the skins will take Trask.

5.  Carolina: The Panthers will take Lance. (I really think the Panthers will take Lance, Wilson, Trask, or MLB Parsons in the first round--if it gets crazy and there are teams trading up for QBs,  Sewell is possibly on the board---you take him).

Lance is a great choice and can develop behind Bridgewater until he is ready to start.   The third year of Bridgewater's deal is not guaranteed, so expect Teddy to be cut before 2023 if Lance shows promise.

6. Chicago:  Mac Jones, Bama. (if this surprises you, it should.  He has had a solid year, but with a great WR corps and solid OL, we shall see)

Teams to watch trading up: Patriots (if they do not trade for Stafford), Indy, Denver,  Philly, 49ers, Raiders, and Vikings.  Lotta teams kicking QB tires this year, thanks to the collapses of Wentz, Haskins, Darnold, Trubiski, Lock, Newton (yes, I said Newton),  Garoppolo, and maybe Carr.  In addition, some teams with aging QBs (Tampa Bay, Indy, Atlanta, Pittsburgh) may want to grab a QB.

I look for teams with a vet  QB and a QB whisperer to pick up a young QB that has been discarded by a bad team.  Darnold, for example, might go to Indy.  I could see Haskins in Chicago or Pittsburgh, Trubiski in Atlanta, and Wentz in New England if they do not get Stafford.

There--now you know what WON'T happen.

We need one if the 4. Lawrence, Fields, Wilson, or Lance. I will be happy if we can grab one of those 4 and do something with our line.

Jury is still out, but I MIGHT consider Trask too.  But we need a QB, LT, LG, and TE just to compete next season-assuming Moton is back (tagged or new deal) and Miller is back at RG.
