The one player we absolutely cannot lose this offseason.....

Depending on the final verdict about what the 2021 salary cap is (and beyond), this is not a great year to be a FA, nor a GM.  All we know is the 2021 cap won't be less than $175M.  If that is the number, that means there are at least $800M less dollars in the league to negotiate for (assuming a conservative 2021 cap would have been $200M, and it probably would have been higher) on the agent side, and $25M less than each GM was accounting for.

I don't trust Hurney to navigate those waters for us.

Last I saw, we were pretty much in the middle of the pack in terms of cap dollars available.  I think our best option, based purely on the cap numbers, was to part company with Okung, which saves us along the lines of $13M.  Paradis "ripens" after June 1, saving us around $5M.  He costs us a few hundred thousand prior to June 1.

I hate parting company with Okung more than Paradis, but the guy can't stay on the field and he is on the wrong side of 30 for that to improve.

One thing I will say is that I do feel better knowing that we have a cap specialist on the team that Tepper hired. With that being said I see no way that Hurney is extended after this season as gm. He will not than likely move to another role within the organization or go to Washington.

Okung isn't under contract, so he doesn't count at all for us in 2021. Cutting Paradis is probably unwise because then we are looking at a scenario where our top 3 OL are gone in one offseason. There is only so much hacking and slashing we can do at OL, it's already thin enough as a unit.

That's my biggest fear, is that we lose both our RT and LT then proceed to make panic signings or draft picks. We could end up with the league's worst OL.....again.

Pointed out in the FA thread

Cutting Paradis actually only saves us about 3-4 mil

Also

On top of Moton and Okung being FA.  Our starting LG, RG, and depth guy Larsen are all FA as well

You really can't think of a single reason?  That's a bit of a naive take.

Well, one reason does stand out.  Our current GM has no idea how to evaluate offensive line, and has no clue how to build a team top to bottom.

Sorry, there is one.

I think we could sustain some turnover at LG/RG, those guys seem fairly replaceable. I wouldn't be against bringing Miller back. He is somewhere between serviceable to solid.

Something has to give, though. We can't attempt to completely rebuild the OL in one offseason. Or....well....we damn sure shouldn't.

As in the FA thread

Are we prepared to pay Moton 16.5+ a year when we will have 26-30 mil in space.

When we are losing ontop of Moton

Our starting LT, LG, RG, #1 CB, and Curtis Samuel.  We sign Moton, IF we dont cut anyone, we will have roughly 5-10 mil to fill all the holes I just listed.  And Remember, just because we cut a guy like KK Short to open space, that just opens another hole.

Finally someone mention numbers. Everyone screaming about signing him but never looking at the numbers.

Is 16.5 a number some experts put out?  Coming into the season I was thinking he would probably never demand less than 15.

Yes, and we could have afforded that, plus James if we didn't keep KK, didn't extend an off ball LB in a 4/3, and sign Teddy and Anderson, and still be on pace for a franchise QB at the top of the draft next year.

Instead, we wanted 2.2 more wins, and a sweet shot at the 10th pick overall.

16.5 mil is the market price for top RTs now.

They are basing this off recently signed players and speaking to people out there, agents etc
