All things 2021 Panthers FreeAgency

It depends on what the market is willing to pay for Samuel and Moton. We could afford to pay both Samuel and Moton, and also bring in more free agents to replace our worst starters. We just don't want to overpay. Once KK is cut our defense will cost less than the Jets defense this season. We'll have some serious money to spend. Keep in mind that dopey Whitehead is on a one year deal and is entirely too stupid to ever receive another contract from this coaching staff. We can keep whomever, but let's not overpay of course.

I mentioned this in another thread. The Saints do it because their big dollar deals are for keeping their best players they developed. Their top 5 cap hits this year are 4 guys they drafted and Brees. Our top 5 are 4 FAs that likely aren’t going to be on the team past 2021 and CMC. That’s why we continue to wonder how the Saints do it. Do you think there would be any way the Saints didn’t sign Moton if he was their player?

Keeping their best players like Taysom Hill lol.

I mean, we'll find out soon enough whether they would ever dare let their homegrown talented OTs walk in FA considering Ramczyk and Armstead are both up for new contracts next season.  Not to mention guys like Lattimore, Rankins, Marcus Williams, Hendrickson, and Malcolm Brown being up for contract extensions this year or next.  How about we revisit this topic in a year?

Damn, I did not realize that they are paying Hill 16 freaking million dollars this year.  WTF?!?

Short?

SMH. Probably the fact (god help us if we keep him again) that he won’t be with us next year made me think of him as a FA. My point was that it’s obvious that their priority money wise is keeping their developed stars whereas we pay through the nose for short timers trying to patch together a winner and have been bad at it since 2018.

Re-sign Moton & Miller. I also really like the idea of Jayon Brown at LB in FA.

As much as I love Samuel, I think we may need to let him explore other options.  There's just so many pass-catchers these days.

We need to find a LT somehow if it doesn't happen in the draft.  Even if we get a 2nd/3rd round OT, I'd like to grab another Okung type signing (If Russ retires)

It isn't often that you will find an OT as good as Okung without paying a mega-premium. The only reason we go him for what we did was because he is near the end of his career. He's been the best LT we have had since Gross.

And 99% of other draft sites including one that I love Draftnetwork, who has a few former NFL scouts who still have connections.  Those guys are laughing.

Jeremiah had Daniel Jones at the top 2 years ago.

Jeremiah really doesn't understand football based on his track record, or at a bare minimum has zero clue on what is talent in the NFL. Outside of the obvious dominant guys.

25. DI LEONARD WILLIAMS
One of the surest bets in the class, Williams has graded between 70.0 and 82.0 in all six years of his career. Run defense is his calling card, as he ranks in the 86th percentile in PFF run-defense grade since entering the league and with his best work coming as a B and C gap defender. Williams is an average pass-rusher and even with increased sack totals this season, he’s yet to break a 72.0 pass-rush grade for his career. Still, Williams has been one of the most valuable interior defensive linemen in the league since 2015, and his level of consistency is a plus for potential suitors.

Contract Analysis: Williams was traded from the New York Jets to the New York Giants in 2019 and had to move his locker across Metlife Stadium. He may be moving much further than that after the 2020 season unless he can agree to a long-term extension with the Giants coming off the franchise tag.

Prediction: Panthers sign Williams for four-years, $72 million ($18M APY): $37.5M total guaranteed, $27.5M fully guaranteed at signing.

Ill sign Moton to the 16.5 per that they have.

But hard pass on Williams.

I would instead sign Bengals CB, William Jackson

Whoever said the T market was 2 strong is not exactly accurate. The LT from Notre Dame (Liam something) looked good so far. Cosmi from texas, the LT from NDSU, Walker Little from Stanford is interesting--he missed 2019 (injury) and 2020 (Covid)--he will drop.  I like Carmen from Clemson as a RT, etc--There are a few others--no stars, but there is some talent- just remember, a good T does not make it to free agency.

You take the dumbass Shaq money back.  You cut KK.  you go with a rookie over semi-retired LT Okung at $13m per game.  You cut Weatherly.  You even cut Paradis if you must.   You do not lose Moton--you pay him market value.

I think the plan is to tag him and sign him during the 2021 season, if not sooner--unless Hurney decides to lock down Reed and Manhertz long term.
