Honestly paying Samuel just isn't a option. We have to keep Moton and it would be nice to extend Moore even though he's injury prone like Samuel. Anderson could be up for an extension as well because he's the reason the others get open. I believe we could draft a WR to fill the 3rd slot and gadget role easier than over paying Samuel.

Good writeup on the Athletic

Moton seems to have given up on any hometown discount after we let this drag out into the season and his play this year.

He has pct chance to return for our FA's

-Moton: 30% chance to return

-Samuel: 35% chance to return

-Okung: 10%

-Mike Davis: 40%

-Manhurtz: 80%

-Armah: 35%

-Pharoh Cooper: 10%

-John Miller: 50%

-Chris Reed: 40%

-Michael Schofield: 15%

-Laraen: 10%

-Whitehead: 5%

-Rasul Douglas: 50%

-Corn Elder: 33%

-KK Short: 15%

Sweet Lord that is awful. I won't miss KK, Whitehead, Schofield, Reed, or Cooper but we really need to get some of the rest of those guys. If we lose Elder, Davis, Okung, Samuel, Moton, Douglas and Miller in the same offseason.....ooof.

Textbook Marty Roster Management right there.

We can't say that at the moment. Remember that this is the least sure free agent market we have seen that didn't involve a CBA negotiation. We still don't have any idea what the cap is going to look like for 2021. That may depress the free agent market or positive news may cause a friendly market for new deals. TBD.

There are roster moves as have been mentioned that will be made to open money up.

Only FAs that I care for us bringing back are:

Moton - pay the man and if he gets LT money, move him to LT and draft a RT

Samuel - Don't back up the Brinks truck a la Donte Moncrief, but a fair deal should work

Douglas - He's a very solid starting boundary CB....not a CB1, but will play well beside a CB1 (maybe we draft Surtain II or Farley in R1)

Miller - He's not a "must" re-sign, but if there's enough dough leftover, I think he's been a very underrated piece of our OL this year. Young and building chemistry can't be overlooked.

Marty better not f*ck this up. He is horrible at negotiating, overpaying and adding dead cap, while letting players that we should sign walk. I'm very, very nervous about this offseason.

If the Saints, Patriots, Steelers and Chiefs can continue to load up on trades and FAs on the fly and navigate their contracts efficiently to remain relevant each year while up against the cap, why the F can't our GM??

Marty Meatballs, when we started digging outta the hole, he was brought back to take over and put us further into the seven circle of cap hell and forever taint the team with his management of the cap and garbage drafting skills.

Yep. Here’s how you make it hard to extend your young and talented guys:

$20M to Weatherly, Roberts, Searcy, Wright and Apple

$27M to Paradis

$13M to Okung

$63M to Teddy

$13M to Short

$18M to Poe

$8M to McCoy

$18M for Boston

$170M in cap spent trying to stop gap win and we got 16 wins in 3 years and we can’t afford to pay one of the top young tackles in the league or our WR3, heck maybe even our WR1. Beyond frustrating as a fan. This was a 100% rebuilding year. People are pleasantly surprised with our play at 4-8, but we don’t have extra picks and we don’t have extra cap space and we might not have a top 10 pick.

Russell Okung- 2020 Starter, Let Go

John Miller- 2020 Starter   Sign for a reasonable salary

Mike Davis  Keep for a reasonable salary

Tahir Whitehead NOT NO but HELL NO

Tyler Larsen- been a key depth guy here for a while  (debatable since he seems more injured than ready to play)

Curtis Samuel We need to keep him with a solid offer.  I don't think he's #1 money but will require a good contract.  Hopefully Hurney doesn't F this up.

Michael Schofield No Need

Chris Reed- 2020 starter  Keep if possible

Pharoh Cooper- 2020 Starting Punt Returner  NO NEED we can always find another returner.

Chris Manhertz Blocking TE are a dime a dozen

JJ Jansen We need JJ.  He's solid and should have a standard LS contract.  Nothing special.

Taylor Moton2020 starter  Keep even if it requires the Tag.

Adarius Taylor No Need

Julian Stanford  No Need

Keith Kirkwood (RFA) No Need

Rasul Douglas2020 starter  I think he likes it here and should probably accept a decent contract.

Efe Obada (RFA)  I would like to keep him but I believe someone is going to offer him more than we will be willing to pay.  He's a solid rotational player.

Trenton Scott It will be interesting on Scott.

Joey Slye I know he's had a tough year but he's a hellava kicker and I would hate to get one that is more inconsistent then him.

Corn Elder (RFA)  He can be replaced.

Alex Armah-   (only FB on Roster)  He's a solid FB and keep him as long as it's reasonable.

I mentioned this in another thread. The Saints do it because their big dollar deals are for keeping their best players they developed. Their top 5 cap hits this year are 4 guys they drafted and Brees. Our top 5 are 4 FAs that likely aren’t going to be on the team past 2021 and CMC. That’s why we continue to wonder how the Saints do it. Do you think there would be any way the Saints didn’t sign Moton if he was their player?

A name to keep an eye in the second and third round is Marvin Wilson, think he would be a great fit next to 95

As much as I would like Wilson next to 95, I can't see it happening. Wilson is a first round pick, and we cannot draft another DT in the first

I'd like to see us keep John Miller & of course Moton.  Don't mind forking over the $ for a proven and young commodity at the tackle spot.  As mentioned, LT & C will need to be of focus.

Curtis Samuel if we can get something in a good ballpark.

JJ Jansen for them long snaps.

I think the issue with Moton is paying 16-20 million a year for a RT.  That is LT money, and you know Moton is going to be looking for the top of the market, and rightfully so.  If there is any way he can play LT at a high level, that is where he needs to be.

Agreed.  I am going to hate to see Samuel go, because he really is an exciting player, and is coming into his own this year, BUT hes going to want like 8 million a year, and we do not have that luxury to pay that much for a WR3.  Especially not when we pay our starting RB 16 mil a year.  We can draft a player in the 2nd or 3rd round that can move into the WR3 role for much cheaper.

Here's the thing though.

You dont spend that $$ on him.  Then who are you spendong that $$$ on?

You not cutting KK now?  Because whats the point of opening ca0 space if yoir not using it?

Your letting him walk, now you have 4 of your starting 5 OL gone.  With the only starting OL returning, Paradis.

Now your going into the draft with 0 starting calibre OTs.    This now forces your hand to reach and over draft with a top 10 pick because of need.  You'll be drafting a guy who was 25-40 overall on everyones boards at 7.  When there are CBs which is another position we Desperately need who are graded top 15 guys, and we will Have to pass. You may have to pass on that nect great MLB who feor a play making TE

You may miss your opportunity on your next franchise QB in a projected strong QB crop.

All because you dont even have a starting calibre OT, because your roster mismanagement

This is actually how the Bengals organization has handled themselves the last 15 years.  Refusing to pay their own guys they develop, afraid to pay the big $$, and let them walk.
