What were you wrong about? Because the whole scenario was laid out early last off-season and looks like an actual “window to the future” than the “negative outlook” many on here claimed.

Only thing I honestly think I may have got wrong was signing Anderson. Only looking at money for this year and next, but I think he could be a valuable long term player since he’s not old. That said if he doesn’t resign after 2021, I was fully right.

Yikes!

If Zack doesn't think we can keep him, I'm officially worried.

What FA are we going to waste money on in 2021 to lose his 3rd round comp pick?

Seriously though, if we can’t extend him, I’ll be really pissed. Why did anyone listen to whoever said we could compete this year? It was so obvious that not releasing Short and signing Teddy and other stop gaps like Okung, Weatherly and Roberts was dumb. Just those guys alone is Moton for 4 years and one year of Moore.

It’s really frustrating that the team, not just “losing creates a culture” fans in here, couldn’t get that 1-2 years of crap was worth dominating the division for 5-10 years when Brady/Brees are gone and Ryan is on his last legs. I’m so glad we’ll lose Moton, a long term cog, just so we could be 4-8.

Cut Weatherly - saves 6 mil

Cut KK - saves 11 Mil

Restructure CMC (Base Salary 8 mil)

Extend Paradis (Base Salary 7 mil)

Extend Robby (Base Salary of 8 mil)

We can get to approx 45-50 mil with a couple quick moves and thats with the absolute worst the cap is at 175.

I don't think we are as horribly cap strapped as we're all making it out to be.

We do need to NAIL this draft coming up to compete though.

We aren’t strapped, but we could have made it so simple to say let’s make sure our core “good” players are here for the 5 year plan. Moton, Moore (2 left), Samuel, Anderson(1 left), CMC (2 or 5 left), Burns (3 left), Chinn (3 left) and other young guys. We blew about $90M in cap mainly this year for a bunch of non-5 year plan guys. If we didn’t, then we would be talking about his easy it would be to keep everyone and sign some studs in 2022 when we start the playoff runs.

Also, cutting Short saves us $14.5M. That’s the new money we’d pay him in 2021. You can’t look at dead money because that hits our cap no matter what as it was already spent just prorated. We can’t really save or increase that. New money is what we save because if we do spend it, it hits our cap and if we don’t, it doesn’t.

Listening to WFNZ

This morning

They are talking about the tweet from RR reguarding Moton.  They said they saw it and started reaching out to their sources in the building too.

And they are hearing the same thing.  They said their sources said "Moton is wanting LT $$$ now and we are not willing to pay that."  "And they are preparing for him to walk."

Also just said they asked about Samuel as well.  "They are worried he is going to walk as well.:

So he does want the premier spot.

Still wish we'd try him there but I long ago gave up any hope that it would happen.

I hate that we're sitting here talking about re-signing Moton and Samuel, solid 2nd round picks from the Dave Gettleman era, and Marty Hurney continues to draft like a complete asshole outside of the 1st round. It obviously took Matt Rhule's influence for him to draft anyone worth a sh*t outside the first round. Hurney needs to be fired. This team just doesn't win with him around. Go get another asshole to be the GM to counter Matt Rhule's player-friendly style and win a f*cking Superbowl.

Why does it feel like the Panthers have been in cap hell with garbage players every year since 2011?

Marty Meatballs, when we started digging outta the hole, he was brought back to take over and put us further into the seven circle of cap hell and forever taint the team with his management of the cap and garbage drafting skills.

I definitely can't see bringing Okung back, and Lord knows you can't put Greg Little in that role.

We've got a hole at a very important spot.

What some do not get, it seems, is if we draft a QB in round 1 (supposedly 4-5 will be taken in the first), it is unlikely that we grab a starting LT in the second round--

The OT market is interesting after Sewell, but I see no T better than last season's top 4--so we could see who drops into the second round and hope for a talent better than Little.

The draft has some good centers and guards, so the smart move might be to grab a MLB in round 2 (if we go QB in round 1) and then draft C and G later.  I think we can find early starters in rounds 3-4.  Of course, there are concerns about S, CB, TE....but to be honest, we need to work front to back.

We have dead cap money that will be gone---I think we will have more money after we cut KK Short, Paradis, and Weatherly--and there is my long shot cut---Shaq Thompson.   For example, we could cut Shaq Thompson post june 1 and save $11m in 2021 and $30m over the following 2 seasons.  I am not seeing his value under this current contract. Combined, this would save the team a ton of cap room---and I expect the NFL cap number to drop.

I say keep Moton, Samuel, Douglas, Miller, Scott, Jansen, and Elder.

Good writeup on the Athletic

Moton seems to have given up on any hometown discount after we let this drag out into the season and his play this year.

He has pct chance to return for our FA's

-Moton: 30% chance to return

-Samuel: 35% chance to return

-Okung: 10%

-Mike Davis: 40%

-Manhurtz: 80%

-Armah: 35%

-Pharoh Cooper: 10%

-John Miller: 50%

-Chris Reed: 40%

-Michael Schofield: 15%

-Laraen: 10%

-Whitehead: 5%

-Rasul Douglas: 50%

-Corn Elder: 33%

-KK Short: 15%

So many needs, not enough money to splash around.

I hope the team do not lock up money for the 2022 and 2023 season. Try hand out one year contracts or frontload (hard with no cash) against the cap in 2021. And let the coming draft play out. Hopefully that will limited the free agency needs in 2022, so longer/better contracts can be handed out then when the team should be ready to start competing.
