Samuel and Moton are our main concerns.

Davis is more of a medium concern that may become a starter on another team. While I'd love to keep him, and he's been very good for us, we can't pay him much to be CMC's backup.

I'd love to keep Douglass and (it surprises even me to say this, but) Elder in the secondary, and I doubt either cost a ton.

Obada has been good this season, but shouldn't command a lot of money either.

Armah has been a blocking machine, and FB's are cheap.

Other than these guys...fug em.

Think they have a idea of where its going.  Dont think itll be that high.

And spotrac isnt the only one projecting 175.  CBS, PFF, etc are all projecting the same thing.

That's because the NFL/NFLPA negotiated that as an absolute floor for the cap to retract.

Understood.

The question is though if we do get a different OC will that guy know how to use him?

I'm still not sold on Brady becoming a HC next year (maybe 2022). But if he does, Rhule strikes me as the kind of guy who likes to be very involved in every aspect of the game, from who we draft, to what plays/coverages get called on. You don't turn around multiple loosing programs without being neck deep in that poo! Whoever he brings in will run HIS offense.

Dont see how KK Short is on this roster next year.

If we can hold off Cutting him until post June 1 that would be Huge.

But this means you are going to need to draft atleast 3-4 starters in this draft.  Waiting for June 1 with him, means most FA are already taken.  But if we cut pre June 1, we're getting a lot less space and owing more in dead cap

Should never have been on this roster. He, Apple, Roberts and Weatherly basically cover Samuel for 4 years. SMH. We wouldn’t have any discussions. Short cut before this year is one year of DJ or Moton. Throw in Teddy and we got Samuel and Moton extended gratis and have no issues with Moore.

I don’t want to act like all my ideas were perfect, but this is why I was full bore start Grier for a year and don’t sign FAs/dump Short. We’d still miss the playoffs, still get all the young guys tons of playing time, get 3 more comp picks including a 3rd rounder and we’d have tons of cap such that extending Moore, Moton and Samuel was easy and when rookie QB is looking good go balls out FA in 2022 and own the division for 5+ years and maybe win a SB or two.

Being 4-8, not having all the comp picks for so many FA losses and talking about whether or not we can afford Moton, Moore and/or Samuel is frustrating.

Oh, but we don’t want to be the Browns and have a losing culture. It’s much better to be 4-8 and know we’ve got our QB of the future in place. SMH.

Exactly. And the owners are losing a ton of money and aren’t giving it back. More likely 175 for the next 3 years to make up for this year.

I'm not either, but I acknowledge it as a possibility.

I've looked at some possible successors, but it's not going to be easy.

What were you wrong about? Because the whole scenario was laid out early last off-season and looks like an actual “window to the future” than the “negative outlook” many on here claimed.

I'd like to see us keep John Miller & of course Moton.  Don't mind forking over the $ for a proven and young commodity at the tackle spot.  As mentioned, LT & C will need to be of focus.

Curtis Samuel if we can get something in a good ballpark.

JJ Jansen for them long snaps.

Right now Pre cuts, trades etc.  Panthers have 26.2 mil in cap space for 2021.  This should be close to accurate, as I do not expect to see the cap increase much after this covid season.

Free Agent list

Russell Okung- 2020 Starter, injury prone, rumored to be considering retiring going into this season

John Miller- 2020 Starter

Mike Davis

Tahir Whitehead

Tyler Larsen- been a key depth guy here for a while

Curtis Samuel

Michael Schofield

Chris Reed- 2020 starter

Pharoh Cooper- 2020 Starting Punt Returner

Chris Manhertz

JJ Jansen

Taylor Moton2020 starter

Adarius Taylor

Julian Stanford

Keith Kirkwood (RFA)

Rasul Douglas2020 starter

Efe Obada (RFA)

Trenton Scott

Joey Slye

Corn Elder (RFA)

Alex Armah-   (only FB on Roster)

Few notable things:

-4 starting OL hitting FA, and none of those 4 are Center which has been our biggest question mark for 2 seasons.

-Efe Obada and Mike Davis are both guys we got for cheap this year, both guys have played really well.  I'd expect their value to shoot up and don't expect us to get them on another minimum contract.  Will have some competition for them.   How tight are we going to be on space if 3-4 other teams are also looking at these 2.

Spotrac current have the market value for Samuel and Moton.  They are pretty accurate when projecting what the initial value is before bidding between teams drive up the price.

Curtis Samuel's projected:   6.5 Million, projecting could go if he goes AT market value.  3 years 19.6 million.  IF multiple teams want him, this will only go up.    Are we willing to give Samuel 7-8 mil a year?  He's having a good season, but injury past combined with 3 years of nothing and 1 year of productivity.  Are we giving him that $$.  Also keep in mind,  Robby Anderson is going into his last year of his deal. also Moore's deal is quietly coming up.  Don't think you sign Samuel for that much AND sign resign both of the other 2 guys.

Taylor Moton:  This one is going to scare some and anger some consider Marty hasn't already locked him up.  Moton's projection is 16.3 million and projecting 4 years 65.5 million (Matt Kalil's contract was 5 year 55 mil)   *Note* this is IF we don't get in a bidding war among multiple other teams

great post

Cut Weatherly - saves 6 mil

Cut KK - saves 11 Mil

Restructure CMC (Base Salary 8 mil)

Extend Paradis (Base Salary 7 mil)

Extend Robby (Base Salary of 8 mil)

We can get to approx 45-50 mil with a couple quick moves and thats with the absolute worst the cap is at 175.

I don't think we are as horribly cap strapped as we're all making it out to be.

We do need to NAIL this draft coming up to compete though.
