Problem is

Outside of the Oregon kid who will go top 3

This is an extremely weak LT class.  Only 1-2 other guys, scouts are projecting as a LT in the NFL at the top.  And those other 2 have late 1st grades.   Drafting a LT where we will be in the 1st will just be Greg Little 2.0

Daniel Jeremiah just ranked Rashawn Slater over Sewell the other day

And 99% of other draft sites including one that I love Draftnetwork, who has a few former NFL scouts who still have connections.  Those guys are laughing.

Jeremiah had Daniel Jones at the top 2 years ago.

A couple of things about the cap number you got from Spotrac, they are basing all the cap room on a 175 million cap for 2021.  They have been using numbers that came out before the year started and OTC have been using them as well.  They have nothing else to go on so I understand why they are doing it but I don't know that those will be the correct numbers when the cap is finally set for 2021.

First it's a 25 million reduction from 2020 and there are a few teams, I am looking at you Saints and Falcons,  they may not be able to get down to that level and still field a competitive team.  For example the Saints would be more than 80 million over the cap, yes 80, going into the offseason.  I don't know if they could actually cut enough guys and not have soooo much dead money that the team they would field would be anything more than like 20 NFL plays and 30 UDFA from the 2021 draft.  The one thing the NFL doesn't want is there teams to look worse than something like the XFL or the CFL so I don't know if they would let that happen.

Second, and this is really the bigger one, Spotrac, or anyone else,  don't know what kind of TV revenue is going to be coming in.  The NFL has contracts with FOX and CBS and ESPN they are contractually obligated to pay.  I know ESPN has been firing people left and right to afford this.  How has COVID-19 effected this?  is there any out if one of the networks can't pay for this at this time.  Is there any other revenue streams that are included in the cap that has been effected by covid?

So the 175 million cap really is just a guess at this time and could be alot  more or maybe even less.

There's been speculation that they could keep Curtis Samuel and part ways with DJ Moore. If we get bad injury news on Moore, that speculation could increase.

I also like douglas, but I prefer him as a number two cornerback. I don't think he's the kind of guy you want covering the best receivers.

I agree on Douglas and I’d expect him to be paid like a number 2 assuming Hurney isn’t doing the negotiations.

Well I hadn’t factored in Moore’s potential injury news... you’re right though it could play a role especially if it’s an achillies

I'd still prefer to keep all three. For the kind of offense we run, having three top receivers is essential.

Didn't see it happening though. Even less optimistic about it now.

He also had Becton ranked number 1 before anyone was even talking about him. Becton has been the best LT from this years class.

Obviously just his opinion but he has a decent enough track record. But I do agree with you that outside those 2 it’s pretty weak. Sam Cosmi and Walker Little will probably get over drafted due to need

Yep I agree.

Like we mentioned yesterday a “game manager” type QB is better suited to run Brady’s system, 3 WR’s are essential for it as well.

Brady’s system doesn’t need a true WR1 as a lot of it is designed to get guys open through route concepts/scheme.

There could be a couple decent WR’s sitting in the 2nd round that would fit the mold of what we’re looking for. However our needs are starting to pile up and we only have so many picks...

Its not going to be more

In fact, most are projecting it to go down after this year.  So id say 175 is a good rough estimate, because if it does go up, its only going to be by 1-2 mil.

And Paradis isn't good.

Joe Person has said that the Panthers consider keeping Taylor Moton a priority. I seriously hope they're able to do so.

Top Flight tackles are going for like 20 mil these days.  No way can we afford to pay Moton that much.  Given that hes a RT, and not a LT, maybe that price comes down to like 16 but still, thats a large chunk to pay a RT, especially when we still have glaring issues at LT.  Really, Moton needs to be playing LT, if he is at all able to, assuming we give him his payday.

I believe he can play left tackle and I wish we'd give him a shot there.

Don't believe it's going to happen though.

Dont see how KK Short is on this roster next year.

If we can hold off Cutting him until post June 1 that would be Huge.

But this means you are going to need to draft atleast 3-4 starters in this draft.  Waiting for June 1 with him, means most FA are already taken.  But if we cut pre June 1, we're getting a lot less space and owing more in dead cap

I’m getting the feeling the Panthers are pretty close to this line of thinking as well.

Bolles just signed an extension on Friday. He got 4/68 17 per. Bolles has been one of the best left tackles this season. I don’t know how Moton can argue he deserves more than a left tackle.

If we can sign Moton to a similar deal and draft a LT it can help justify spending on a RT while having our LT under a rookie deal

Person believes Short has played his last snap as a Panther.
