All things 2021 Panthers FreeAgency

Recommended Posts

Right now Pre cuts, trades etc.  Panthers have 26.2 mil in cap space for 2021.  This should be close to accurate, as I do not expect to see the cap increase much after this covid season.

Free Agent list

Russell Okung- 2020 Starter, injury prone, rumored to be considering retiring going into this season

John Miller- 2020 Starter

Mike Davis

Tahir Whitehead

Tyler Larsen- been a key depth guy here for a while

Curtis Samuel

Michael Schofield

Chris Reed- 2020 starter

Pharoh Cooper- 2020 Starting Punt Returner

Chris Manhertz

JJ Jansen

Taylor Moton2020 starter

Adarius Taylor

Julian Stanford

Keith Kirkwood (RFA)

Rasul Douglas2020 starter

Efe Obada (RFA)

Trenton Scott

Joey Slye

Corn Elder (RFA)

Alex Armah-   (only FB on Roster)

Few notable things:

-4 starting OL hitting FA, and none of those 4 are Center which has been our biggest question mark for 2 seasons.

-Efe Obada and Mike Davis are both guys we got for cheap this year, both guys have played really well.  I'd expect their value to shoot up and don't expect us to get them on another minimum contract.  Will have some competition for them.   How tight are we going to be on space if 3-4 other teams are also looking at these 2.

Spotrac current have the market value for Samuel and Moton.  They are pretty accurate when projecting what the initial value is before bidding between teams drive up the price.

Curtis Samuel's projected:   6.5 Million, projecting could go if he goes AT market value.  3 years 19.6 million.  IF multiple teams want him, this will only go up.    Are we willing to give Samuel 7-8 mil a year?  He's having a good season, but injury past combined with 3 years of nothing and 1 year of productivity.  Are we giving him that $$.  Also keep in mind,  Robby Anderson is going into his last year of his deal. also Moore's deal is quietly coming up.  Don't think you sign Samuel for that much AND sign resign both of the other 2 guys.

Taylor Moton:  This one is going to scare some and anger some consider Marty hasn't already locked him up.  Moton's projection is 16.3 million and projecting 4 years 65.5 million (Matt Kalil's contract was 5 year 55 mil)   *Note* this is IF we don't get in a bidding war among multiple other teams

idea of what cutting certain guys would look like.

Cutting KK Short opens around 9 mil,  has us on the hook for 11 mil in dead cap for him,  cutting him post June 1 opens 14 mil on the hook for 6 mil in dead cap.

Bridgewater-  opens 3 mil,  on the hook for 20 mil in dead cap.  Post June 1 opens 8 mil in cap,  on the hook for 15 mil in dead cap.

Matt Paradis- opens 4.9 mil leaving 5.4 in dead cap, post June 1 opens 8.5 mil leaves 1.8 in dead cap

Shaq Thompson- pre June 1  opens 4.5 leaves 9.6 dead cap.  Post June 1 opens 10.9 mil leaving 3.2 in dead cap

Just now, Mr. Scot said:

I definitely can't see bringing Okung back, and Lord knows you can't put Greg Little in that role.

We've got a hole at a very important spot.

That will mean 4 starters not named Paradis on the OL all hitting FA

And Paradise isn't good.

Joe Person has said that the Panthers consider keeping Taylor Moton a priority. I seriously hope they're able to do so.

But will he be like James Bradberry and hit the market with open eyes like James Bradberry?  Considering he hasnt already signed, id expect he would.

This means prepare for 16+ a year.

And with 26 mil in space pre cuts, that will leave 10 mil in space with all these other holes (LG, RG, LT, Samuel, CB, etc)

I was actually asking a similar question but I was thinking of Star Lotulelei rather than Bradberry.

I'd like to believe that the culture under Matt rule is more attractive to players than the one under Ron Rivera.

I don't know that though. Nobody does.

I think LT will be the focus in this years draft. Which to me makes bringing back Moton priority number 1. Garrett Bolles just got PAID the other day, so the LT market took a real hit.

I don’t think we’re in a position to be paying a WR3. You need to be able to draft guys like Samuel. Plus once CMC is healthy Samuel’s role is reduced a bit. Considering our cap issues I just don’t see how spending on Samuel makes sense.

I’d like to see us bring back Rasual Douglas, I think he’s played well.

Shaq is here to stay. So no sense in even discussing him. I’m not a fan of Paradis but if we cut him we’ll need to find an entire new OL in one off season (if we can’t bring back Moton) which is asking a bit much.

Im sure it cares but if others are offering more than 16 mil a year, more guaranteed, longer deal.  Is he going to be loyal enough for that and sign here?

Problem is

Outside of the Oregon kid who will go top 3

This is an extremely weak LT class.  Only 1-2 other guys, scouts are projecting as a LT in the NFL at the top.  And those other 2 have late 1st grades.   Drafting a LT where we will be in the 1st will just be Greg Little 2.0

There's been speculation that they could keep Curtis Samuel and part ways with DJ Moore. If we get bad injury news on Moore, that speculation could increase.

I also like douglas, but I prefer him as a number two cornerback. I don't think he's the kind of guy you want covering the best receivers.

I've liked what Jeremiah had to say about Rashawn Slater.

Would you?

Id take the longer deal or more guaranteed, unless its within a mil.

Taking the fan glasses off, these guys have to look after themselves and their family.

You dont take the smaller deal unless your a vet gunning for a superbowl going to a superbowl contender.  You saw this with Gerald McCoy Last year with us.
