Is Teddy a Checkdown QB?

I probably wouldn't have wanted Rivers, though he's had moments this season.

For sure wasn't a fan of Flacco.

I'd glad take Rivers or Winston over Teddy. At least you'd have the ups to go with the downs. With Teddy it hasn't been much in regards to ups.

In our system? Rivers, maybe. Winston? Can't see it.

bad thing about rivers is he looked like refried ass near the end of last season.

What would it matter? Our current QB can't beat anyone either. I guarantee Rivers could and I bet Winston would at least make it fun the entire way. Heck, he couldn't be much worse than Teddy has throwing deep.

Winston's skill set is way better suited to a Coryell system or an E-P like Arians runs.

(not that he looked especially good running that system in Tampa, mind you)

And system absolutely matters. If you doubt that, try picturing Bridgewater in a vertical system.

It's literally Sean Payton's offence. Literally.

it's also the most explosive passing game college football has ever seen in it's history.

Teddy is neutering it.  Plays are clearly called for the deep shots to be the primary reads.  Teddy looks.  He hesitates.  He pursues safer options.

I'd need to watch the All-22 to be sure, but I imagine it's why we see Teddy scramble so much even when there is a clean pocket.  Dude just is way too cautious to throw it deep unless the receiver is open open. I mean PJ Walker is a more mobile QB and even he didn't seem to run it as much as Teddy does unless it was designed (I want to clarify though - I do not think PJ is better or anything, just an observation).

This pass game wants to go deep.  Hell, DJ Moore averages a ridiculous 18 yards per catch and Anderson is always going deep.  Teddy just isn't that kind of a QB.

Winston is probably more suited to the system we currently run than Bridgewater is to a vertical system. Teddy is not capable of making those throws. Jameis is actually capable of making the throws necessary for our offense. The question is would he choose them? He is likely to be almost the antithesis of Teddy, choosing to go deep and into tight windows rather than take the safe passes(similar to what we saw from Walker).

Like I said, I'd rather see him at this point than Teddy. I had some hope Teddy would be an effective game manager but too often he is the reason our offense is stalling out.

Hence the reason why his career high in TD's is 14.

Jameis is a rollercoaster ride. Bridgewater is a carousel.

For my part though, I don't really care who's more exciting. I care who wins.

At the moment, that's neither of them.

I'll take PJ Walker at the moment of the actually available options. I'd rather at least be entertained while I watch Sunday football than wait to see which version of Teddy shows up and then have the sinking feeling that it will all go to poo when the bad version does.

There you go, there is a "gut feeling" take.....can you name any game this season where Teddy has actually overcome adversity rather than succumb to it? I can't.

Problem with Jameis is he would probably choose them too often and when they simply don't exist.

Jameis lost his starting job....throwing for 5000+ yards and 33 TDs in a season.  Which sounds great.  Until you find out he turned the ball over 35 times.

Our offense needs whatever exist between Teddy and Winston.  A gunslinger QB who isn't overly stupid.  Takes the calculated gamble downfield.
