Gano might have made yesterday's kick.  No way he makes the other two, both of which would have been NFL records.  And the one in New Orleans would have only tied the game if memory serves.

No way he would have? He made a 63-yard game winner. Why couldn't he hit a 65-yarder?

More evidence of how under valued kickers are. I don't believe this fan base will ever get it.

When you have a good kicker, you don't cut them for a shiny new guy that sucks. Good kickers don't come around that often.

Yes but the Chiefs already extended him -- and actually just looking at it, his Chiefs contract is actually lower than Gano's, so he's still cheaper... Just a terrible terrible decision in hindsight. Kicker position should've been solidified going forward -- whether Gano or Butker. But it's not.

Gano is making $1 million this year. The Giants did extend him, but even if you factor that in, it's not cheaper. 4 years, 15 million vs 5 years, 20 million.

Gano has been unbelievably good this year. His only miss is from 57 yards. He had injury issues with us and the occasional game where he was just not mentally there, like that Detroit game, but he definitely got way too much hate from the fans. He was at worst above average and at his peak, one of the best kickers in the league. It's fine that we moved on because Slye is dirt cheap and paying Gano that much coming off injury didn't make sense. But I'm happy he's doing well in New York and give him his due.

When was Gano “at worst above average”? Especially before he got kept over a long term answer at an extra 3M just for that year. Gano was average to awful from 2013-2016 and coming off his worst year.

FG % rank

2013-16th

2014-21st

2015-21st

2016-27th

Where is the above average at worst.

Then gave him a new contract based on a “protected” but very good season. This cost about 10M for a half a season. That’s it. And the Panthers are still taking cap hits until next year. I’m glad some are proud that you paying Gano AND Slye. Last year, this year and next year. All while Butker would still be on a rookie deal until this season is over.

Anything Gano does now, doesn’t change the horrible decision it was. Unless paying someone to play for another team is a source of pride.

Gano is better than Butker when healthy!

Availability is an underrated ability.

I'd rather have a dude that hits 90/100 FGs who is always there vs a guy who hits 95/100 who misses games every year. The games he misses some dude that isn't as good as either has to play.

If Gano was still here, many posters would still claim Slye/Butker is better and bash Marty for keeping him.

There are some true non-meme Gano haters out there, each hate with passion form deep down. I never understood it, sorta like the Bradberry hate. Gano missed ONE kick for the whole year and the haters would non-stop bring it up. Just like Bradberry giving up ONE 80 yards game out of six games versus Julio, MT, and Evans. Brainlet thought patterns to the max.
