Gano is fine on a 4-7 team. No real sense of not making the next round of the playoffs 26 yard missed FG. Then again Giants have a better record than us this year. sMH.

They're first in their division.

What are we, and what would we be if Slye made any of the game-winners he's missed this year?

Especially when you factor in age.

And at the time of the decision between Butker and Gano -- contract! Now Butker has a bigger deal but Butker (to be fair this is all in hindsight) was the better AND cheaper option when we chose Gano over him.

He would still be on his rookie deal.

Yes but the Chiefs already extended him -- and actually just looking at it, his Chiefs contract is actually lower than Gano's, so he's still cheaper... Just a terrible terrible decision in hindsight. Kicker position should've been solidified going forward -- whether Gano or Butker. But it's not.

Not completely true, it was a terrible decision in real time as well.

So typical of a scared to death coach and GM.

And a coach who was reluctant to go with a rookie versus doing all he could to try to get an older player his fairy tale ending...

It was a bad decision at the time. Nobody had a clue how well Butker would turn out, and Gano has still been pretty great for the most part since then aside from the injuries. Butker was promising and should've been kept but he's still surpassed anyone's expectations of him at the time making it terrible in hindsight.

I'd rather have a QB that can make an easy TD toss so we dont have to keep having to rely on a last second field goal.

Yeah, well we were in a position where we could win the game even with that error if Slye just does his job once. Instead, he misses a chip shot and shanks a game winner.

Gano might have made yesterday's kick.  No way he makes the other two, both of which would have been NFL records.  And the one in New Orleans would have only tied the game if memory serves.

I wouldn't care if he was 100% this year in all kicking. We dumped his salary and at the end of the year the kicker isn't going to win us a championship or even get us into the playoffs. By the time our team is ready to make a serious run, Gano will probably be retired. We went with the younger & cheaper guy and I would be shocked if we didn't bring in a serious competition for our current guy in the offseason. Improving at kicker isn't even in the top 10 of positions where we need to improve this offseason.

Slye doesn't seem to be the answer, oh well. It was a good year to try and see if he would build on last year. Guy looks like a journeyman, nothing more. Keep looking.
