He's a nice piece but just as he's coming into his own we're probably going to have to let him walk.

The only position that it really makes sense to draft long-term project developmental players is QB. I don't like spending 1st and 2nd rounders on project players. It was the same story with Shaq. We really didn't get good return on his cheap rookie contract years.

I didn't think of Samuel as a project. A lot of scouts had a 1/2 grade on him. The idea being that the Panthers wanted a positionless player or catch and run type guy who could do it all. They went with CMC early but, Samuel was billed as the same player. A poor man's cmc.

Seemed to me they were just throwing more darts and insurances at the board incase one didn't pan out. But if they both did then the good news is they don't cancel each other out because they play multiple positions.

And as far as the OP.  Yes, Burns is elite now, but I think he has DPOY potential moving forward.  His explosiveness is rare, but he's also showing some incredible ability to defend passes and make plays against the run.  Really excited about his future.

He balls out every play.  IMO after a couple of years we'll be talking about him in the same breath as JP.

    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
    • I would say maybe 8 in a tier by themselves and all but 2 where picked in the top of the first allen pat m stroud burrow jackson hurts (maybe) Herbert Stafford
