While I should stop here, nay nay.  I sorta think our CB position will be fine.  Here is why--Douglas is serviceable if he is not on the #1. Jackson has been injured and is not as bad as we make him out to be.  Elder is having a better year than Munnerlyn did when the horns paid him big money.  Pride needs more experience, and there might be something in Stantley. whatever his hyphenated last name is.   Throw in a free agent, and get a stud S behind them, and we can start playing with less cushion and more aggression.  In other words, we need to heal and mature instead of an overhaul.  In a perfect world?  maybe overhaul, but if we address the OL, the DBs are not on the field as much--addition by subtraction.

The thing about CBs is almost all of them take time to develop to the NFL level.  I think it is one of the toughest positions to make the transition from college to the pros because the difference in the speed of the game is probably the most apparent in WR - CB matchups.

The guys that "burst onto the scene" are usually fast enough to make up for their mistakes.  NFL receivers are quicker, smarter, and generally better route runners than what most CBs saw in college, except maybe in flashes.  Not to mention the ball tends to get to receivers much more quickly due to QBs throwing the ball to where the receiver is going to be rather than waiting for him to break free.

I remember when we got Gettleman and all he talked about was his hog mollies but he didn't really address it completely.  There was always that reach...ie Shaq.

I think I have to have faith in anyway we attack this offseason.  I hope we just keep building like we did in 2020.  I really like our draft Class and have 4 or 5 players have have received playing time.  I don't know if I can ever remember where we have 4 or 5 players from one draft playing and contributing.

Too bad Gettleman didn't care about the hog mollies on the offensive side of the ball.

Exactly.... More talk than action.

If he ever acted like he said we would have had a great line to protect Cam and maybe we would still be running the NFCS.

You look at his picks and very few are still left with the team.

shaq wasn't a reach per se, but he definitely wasn't a need.

Landon Collins probably would have been a reach but oh my god was he a need

Gettleman spent way too many premium picks on redundancies. 1st rounder on Shaq with TD on the roster. 1st rounder on Butler with KK on the roster. 2nd rounder on Funchess with KB on the roster. 2nd on Samuel right after drafting CMC in the 1st.

Agreed but I do like the Samuel pick.  He's really played well after his disappointing rookie season.  To me, he's a huge asset to our offense and I hope we keep him.

He's a nice piece but just as he's coming into his own we're probably going to have to let him walk.

The only position that it really makes sense to draft long-term project developmental players is QB. I don't like spending 1st and 2nd rounders on project players. It was the same story with Shaq. We really didn't get good return on his cheap rookie contract years.

For years, we entered every draft needing a WR early.  Sometimes we would draft one, then a year or two later we would still need a WR.  While we were in that viscous cycle, our need for OL kept growing but nobody noticed, because we desperately needed WRs.

As somebody said earlier, we may not be far from having a special DL.  Burns donning the red cape and S on his chest this season has been huge.  Most of the pieces are in place, assuming YGM comes along.  We need a somebody next to Brown on the inside.  I like Efe as depth on the end.  Hopefully the secondary develops.

Now about two of those linebackers......And who knows, maybe Shaq would be serviceable if there was somebody in the middle....anybody.

This all goes back to the GM.  The problem is that we only nail one or two picks each draft.

So many projects and Hurney thinking he was the smartest GM out there when in fact he sucked.

How many of his later round picks (and Gettleman) are still with the team.  Hardly any.

You draft an projected lineman in round 4 or 5.  By year two they should start seeing the field. Not the waiver wire.
