Bold Predictions for 2021

- Phil Snow gets a HC interview.

- Brady gets a HC offer but turns it down (Lions) to wait for a better situation and continue to build here.

- We draft a QB but he doesn't play a snap. Teddy is the starter and with an improved OL puts up very good stats, wins 1 playoff game and we trade him after the season for a 1st round pick.

Dream scenario

Now THOSE are some bold takes. Touche.

What are yours at the almost three quarter point of the season?

Mine:

The face of the franchise after the 2021 season will be Brian Burns.

Brian Burns will be widely considered a top 3 pass rusher leaguewide next season.

DJ Moore will go for at least 1400 yards and 10 tds, 900 of them coming in the 6 to 8 game stretch Trey Lance enters the game in.

We will have a top 5 run defense and make the wildcard.

FA consists of guys no one has heard of, the draft leaves people scratching their heads, Hurney gets left at an airport during the offseason.

Resulting in, the most complete defense we have had in years, think 2013 level, the best offense we have ever had, think better than 2015 and we go out and get deep into the playoffs.

We have the youngest hungriest team in the NFC and go on a run of 5 years of domination the likes unseen since the Pats dynasty.

Tepper then puts a statue of himself outside, gets creepy, and we wash and repeat in 15 years with at least some hardware.

I don't think we're getting a 1st for Teddy, but I'd love for us to follow the Chiefs' blueprint where they had a solid vet QB but drafted a young stud because they knew they needed better than solid then let the youngster sit and learn a year before trading the solid vet. The Chiefs got a starting CB and a 3rd for Smith.

Maybe not, but Teddy fetched a 2nd rounder based off of like 1 decent preseason with the Jets and still concerns about the injury and whether he could bounce back... If he balls out next year with our weapons and an improved OL and even wins a playoff game I think he could fetch a mid-late first depending on other team's situations. Especially since we'd only be trading him coming off a season like that because of having a rookie QB sitting there.

(and this is dependent on the BOLD TAKE that Teddy does ball out next year and win's a playoff game. That's not likely, which is why it's a bold prediction)

In most measures we are far, far, far, far, far, far, far from a top 10 unit. That is indeed a bold statement.

But is there any measure that matters other than points allowed at the end of the day? All the other measures are only important for preventing teams from putting points up on the board...

Yes, because those other measures/stats actually let you know what your defense is deficient in. Points allowed just tells you what the result was, not WHY the result was.

Next year... playoffs and an excited fan base.

We will NOT draft a QB(Teddy and PJ give us at least another year) but help the lines, especially O-line. Personally I think a center in the 1st round (Kahlil) for years of stability (inside pressure kills). Need TE, CB badly in FA or draft.

Extend Moton and Samuel. More and Anderson have another year and we don't know the impact of the cap next year or 2022 but I can see them sticking around.

Gone: Whitehead, Paradis, Okung & KK (I'm sad about KK as a really like him, injuries got the best of him).

Staying: Tre, Little, Jackson, Shaq, Burris & Davis (if same/cheaper). No need to make dead cap space and have more holes.

Also: OC Brady stays at least one more year and learns more about being a coach in the NFL. I also think he had a deal with Tepper to stay and help build before jumping ship (IMO).

I get that but does the WHY really matter if the D is producing good results? Don't get me wrong, this D has many issues. I just think that they're fixable and we're not as far off from being a top D as we thought we would be going into the season. Plus the youth across the board on D suggests that the D even without additions (there will be significant ones) will only continue to get better. I'm not saying that it's likely we'll have a top 10 D, I just don't think it's all that bold and is within the realistic realm of possibilities. Top 5 D would be bold (and I do think that is possible; very unlikely and unrealistic, but possible).

The why is the only thing that matters if you want to actually get better. Otherwise, we just look at our "top 15" defense and say, "Mission Accomplished." The reality is, this is a bottom 5-10 defense that is overperforming versus the talent level. In truth, the only real "core" defensive members that we have are Brian Burns, Jeremy Chinn, and Shaq Thompson. The rest are a hodgepodge of rentals, journeymen and young players whose future is still in doubt(which some may point out that Chinn could easily be in that lot). We certainly have some promising youth in that mix(Brown, YGM, Jackson, Pride, Roy, etc). Perhaps some of those guys pan out, perhaps not.

Either way, the point of looking at other statistical measures of your defense, is solely to make improvements and adjustments. Otherwise we look at last year's sack totals and say we were "dominant." The truth was quite different from that and changes needed to be made.

Our new first round QB wins rookie of the year over Lawrence and fields and the other front runners due to having great weapons (CMC, DJ, Anderson, Samuel) and a really good OC. We make the playoffs but don’t make it to/past the conference title game. 2022 we have a real shot at the Super Bowl after a couple drafts/free agency periods addressing the OL and LB corps

We don't select a QB in the upcoming draft, and Teddy becomes the face of our franchise in 2021. The team goes 8-8 and Teddy signs a major contract extension to be our long term franchise QB.

Long term:

We become a middle of the pack team with good defense, and good offense, but not dominant on either side of the ball. The fan base goes into "one magic season" mode, hoping that enough talent will eventually accumulate and we get our one shot at the SB before Teddy retires and PJ takes over. We make the playoffs a few times, but miss the playoffs a few more than we make them. We never make it to the SB, and PJ takes the reigns to lead us into another several seasons of hoping for "one magic season" where we're finally loaded with talent that we can't keep long term. We make the playoffs a few times under PJ, and miss them more than we make them. We're typically somewhere near 8-8 each season, and on the bubble to make the playoffs. We don't win a SB under PJ, but all in all Rhule is happy with the state of the franchise. Middle of the pack means a new contract for Rhule, and excited fans hoping for playoff births. Add rinse repeat.
