A Dream Come True

Rhule has also said that coaches who are only there for X's and O's don't succeed. He wants "control of the program" (per his words).

And speaking in general, not just about Rhule, I hate when front office and ownership get involved in coaching decisions. I don't want Tepper to be Jerry Jones.

Why do I have a funny feeling Hurney's guy was actually Cam but...

"I don't want to say about anybody that they'll be a starter," Rhule said. "I'll try to be -- especially in my first year -- to be really disciplined about not promising things to certain guys. I'll just say I really want him on the team.

"I don't think I'm going to say anybody is a starter yet -- really just in the first year," Rhule said. "I think it's really important for me as I go in there that I want to create a culture of competition. I want to create a culture of where nothing is promised to anybody.

- Rhule speaking on Cam during the off-season.

Then Joe Brady's guy is Teddy...

"To me it was what was the best decision going forward (with Teddy Bridgwater). Teddy's relationship and connection with Joe (Brady)," was also a big factor in signing Bridgewater, per Rhule. Rhule said it wasn't a fit issue with Cam, "he can play great in any system."

But Rhule's choice was P.J. Walker

  • He signed former Owls QB P.J. Walker. If Rhule had signed Walker as his starter to replace Cam Newton, we’d be first in line questioning the move. But the Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater as the presumed starter, with Walker as the insurance policy. Given that Walker lit up the XFL this year, earning praise as a sure thing to make an NFL roster, this was a savvy move. Everyone needs a backup. Rhule has one he trusts. If Walker turns out to be more than that, it’s a steal. But assume he’s a backup. It’s a smart move.

That's a quote taken from Mike Jensen when he was comparing Rhule to Chip Kelly.

Tepper just sitting back watching the process.

Which of the three QB's would work out???

If Tepper is anything like Jones then he's thinking...

“Tank for Trevor.”  next year...* coughs *

I mean that's water($) under the bridge (table)

Sidenote: Will Grier is another Hurney's pick but he couldn't even beat out an XFL'er.

Another note: Tepper must be smiling ear to ear he didn't hire McDaniels.

It was reported that both Hurney and Ron Rivera wanted to offer Newton an extension but David Tepper said no.

And yet Ron did not jump on bringing Newton for vet min to Washington. Maybe not up to him.

Still an extension, which would likely have been for a lot more money and more long term structures contract, would have been more stupid than paying TB. TB can be release after next year with little consequence and given the entire team’s state, it’s really not that bad.

I'd agree.

For the moment of course, he's our starter. That could easily change next year, and probably should.

I wouldn't say that our quarterback of the future is currently on the roster though.

I really hope we have another GM before we draft a QB. Just my opinion.
