Gordon Hayward signs with Charlotte 4 years/120M

Hard to tell what we're doing.  We just re-signed Biz, which makes no sense to me unless we plan on moving Cody, or plan on not playing the rookie bigs significant minutes.  If I'm a GM, Biz is my 15th man/bench vet and doesn't come off the bench...  especially with the other pieces we have, I don't see how Biz fits on the floor.  Then there are the posts from Terry suggesting he is on the way out.  The initial whispers were that Terry would be the guy we move to Boston so we wouldn't have to stretch Batum.  But, signing Biz back makes me think it may be Cody.

Then I have to wonder, if maybe they're trying to get a 3 team deal done with Indy.  Indy wanted Hayward, who is from Indiana.  But, who else is from Indiana?  Cody.

So I don't think Terry is upset and wants to leave.. that's just people reading another cryptic message wrong..

As far as working a 3 way trade with Indy, it doesn't rly make sense for Indy to pickup Zeller because they were trying to give Myles Turner to Boston to free up minute for Sabonis.. they would probably want a wing back..

We have the leverage over Boston right now. Boston feels like they should deserve something back for Hayward (Rozier or Zeller). Danny Ainge is getting some heat right now because of letting free agents walk in the past in return for nothing: Kyrie and Horford, now Hayward. Mitch and Jordan are telling Danny that they will have to send a draft pick to get a sign and trade.

Best description of how the deal could work (but it's from Boston's perspective):

Jordan is building a team to make a play for Giannis.

Ball, Graham, Hayward, Washington, Giannis

That would be a legit contender. But we have zero shot at Giannis so dream on.

Mike Jordan did it

On paper, this may be one of the best Hornets teams ever, if healthy.

I give Mike credit for handing it to Mitch, who probably is the best GM the franchise has ever acquired. The resume speaks for itself.

What is soooo great for Lamelo is Mitch groomed Kobe and Jordan is GOAT all similar in body type. The mental conditioning for championships is in that building. I think #2 is as driven as a basketball player could get and through his dad and being shipped off to play against grown men night in night out has made this kid mentally tougher than coddled superstar college blue chips.

When Mike got Gordon Hayward that made it clear that Mike NOW has his foot on the gas. Mitch on the steering wheel.

“If you want the clown the contract, that’s fine. Just know that’s it’s not like the Pacers and the Celtics were offering $80 million,” Lowe said. “They weren’t offering $120 (million), but my best intel is something like 105, 108, 102, 110. It’s not like the delta was so huge.”

Let's face it, as soon as LaMelo can get out of Charlotte via FA he's going. Market not big enough for him. Understanding this, I think management is trying for success in the short run by signing Hayward and another high end signing next year. I'm pretty sure another trade could be in the works so we can eat all of Nic's salary cap this year.

That's an incredibly low bar...  (I presume you are starting the clock in 2004)

Another low bar.

Mitch had nothing to do with Kobe's ascension --- Kobe didn't need any motivation and if anyone coached him up it was Phil Jackson.  Jerry West was the functioning GM when Kobe was brought over to the Lakers.

I have high hopes for LaMelo but if he does well it won't have anything to do with Mike Jordan.  There is no evidence of Mike ever having anything to do with successful player development.

Not a lot of positive takes out there on the Hayward signing.  He's a quality individual/player but he's 30 with a very troubling injury history.  The Bobcats were a year or two away from a full-revamp without making any foolish veteran signings --- same as was the case when Big Al was brought in --- Mike threw in the towel (both times) because the financial pressure got to him.

I do believe the team has an outside chance to squeak into the playoffs but this "mental conditioning for championships" talk is really quite humorous!

Those guys have Championships, you don't. Together they may have success, we don't know yet. Mitch has done great so far in my opinion much better already than Cho, so that's a plus not a negative.

Mitch could have came in and changed everything in a bad sense and Kobe and the Lakers didn't have to have that run of success that they did under Mitch. Give credit where credit is due.

It's easy to poo on Mike. But what has anybody done better than MJ? Magic and Bird no longer have meaningful roles in the NBA and they will never be a majority owner like Mike. We got the Hornets name and culture back, thanks Mike.

As Tepper will soon see, success isn't easy and can be taken for granted foolishly.

Hayward aside from this most recent injury has been solid so the "very troubling" injury "history" is a bit of an overstatement.

Go Hornets! I'll stand with them in the excitement over the recent building blocks they've laid.

If allowed my family will be having a great time in the Spectrum center this season and beyond.

Irrelevant.  Incredibly unlikely.  Another low bar.

Mitch didn't have the authority to change anything, much less everything.  No credit given.

Bird was NBA Coach of the Year and NBA Executive of the Year...and NBA Player of the Year.  All Mike has done is destroy value in every executive role he's had in the NBA.

Too funny, Tepper and Mike a diametric opposites, that you'd mention them in comparison is laughable.

Hayward has missed 111 games over the last 3 seasons...or 45% (include playoffs & it's a lot more).    That's troubling.

I encourage you to do so!

Have fun.

We’ve sucked ass for so long I don’t even care about bad contracts anymore. I’m just excited to see an actual big time FA sign with us. I heard we are going after Cousins as well. At the very least we will have a very fun team to watch for the next few years.

very much agreed dude.  100%
