Serious question - new to the board, but is it rife with trolls?

This is the second thread I've seen today that can be summarized as "We have a good young player. Should we trade him?"

Welcome to the Huddle, Oldham -- I remember you from the "head scratching" board (from which I got banned for expressing a different opinion from the Aussie guy.)

Another common thread here is asking whether we should make a move for every JAG who gets cut by another team.  Best to read for enjoyment, and post only when you have an original thought.  On balance, this is a great site, and it doesn't long abide trolls.

Yes--he is a key piece. Here is how you do it:

25 % of the cap this year is dead money--most of that goes away.

Okung. Do not re-sign him.  $13m

Paradis: Post June 1 cut  $8.5m

Whitehead: Do not re-sign.  $2.5m

Short: Post june 1 cut:  $14.5m

Boston:  Post June 1 $3.5m

Thompson (no guaranteed money in 2021) Salary cap savings to cut post june 1:  $10m

So, based on my novice interpretation of these OTC numbers, we could save $50m in cap room by cleaning out the attic and getting rid of the team's underperforming, highest paid players.  Some simply do not re-sign, but cuts are necessary in other cases.

So what do you do with that $50m?  (This does not include the dead cap money being lessened a lot)

Re-sign Moton  (This will cost about $16-18m--wild guess)

Re-sign Samuel if he comes fairly cheap (a #3 WR salary, but his value here is more--he runs the ball as well) I am going to throw $7-8 m at him?  Hard to gauge)

Extend Anderson This will cost us about $15m per season.

Moore is under contract through 2021, so I would negotiate a new deal during the season that may include his year 4 of the rookie contract.  Something akin to Anderson's deal $15m.  This move is not necessary for 2021.

So that alone eats up the $50m, but we should still have some room to sign a few free agents, including a few off your own roster, such as RG Miller.

I think the issue is, "Can we afford all three WRs?" Here is the salary cap dillema:  Anderson needs to be extended--he signed a 2-year, team friendly deal to come to Carolina.  Samuel is more than a #3 WR--he runs the ball and has been improving.  He will need to be paid.  Moore's final year of his contract is (like Anderson) 2021.  So what do you do with him?  The answer is, "nothing" for 2021, but then we are looking at about $35m to pay Anderson and Moore in 2022...

To me, it can be done rather easily, but if you have 20% of your cap at WR, where are you cutting?  To me this is simple:  Cut the dead wood from atop the roster--Okung (do not re-sign), Paradis--and find rookies in the draft and start them as soon as possible. If we re-sign Miller and Moton, then we have a fairly low percentage of the cap invested in an improved OL.  Pay the shaq money to a MLB, not an OLB.  Cut Shaq.  Stuff like that.

Welcome to the Huddle.  There are some quality posters here and I learn a lot from them.  There are a few asshats as well, as with any crowd.  You do not need to find them, they somehow find you.

MY GOD..... A VOICE OF REASON...  I didn't think this existed anymore.

We need to try and keep our draft picks especially our 1st and 2nd round picks.  (Providing they are performing...hint hint Little)

Okung  not worth the money    CHECK

Paradis:  A solid FA or  If we draft a Center in Rd 1-3  CHECK

Whitehead: He's not cut yet?  CHECK

Short:  It's a hard pill to swallow but it's hard to see that much money on the Bench.  Our D-Line is playing well without him.  CHECK

Boston: We have some good young players, no need in hanging onto the past.  CHECK

Thompson: another tough decision but he's not that good that he can't be replaced by a much cheaper option and get the same quality CHECK

Moton: You HAVE to keep the best player on our O-Line and he's Pro Bowl caliber.   CHECK

Samuel:  I think he's going to cost a bit more because he's definitely has the eyes of other teams.  He is so dynamic in both the passing and running game.   IMO we keep him at all cost.  He's too valuable of a weapon.  Especially if we keep Teddy.  He''s Teddy security blanket. CHECK

Anderson:  Agreed with the value, plus Anderson has some loyalty to Rhule. He brought him here and used him like he needs to be used CHECK

Moore: We haven't even said we were picking up his option year yet.  We have time and hopefully Hurney is gone and we can get a good deal for him. CHECK

I think we can address some of our needs through smart FA deals and narrow down what we need to focus on in the draft.

Just out of touch with reality, not trolls.  Such as the idea of let’s tank even though it will get players cut and coaches fired, you know the people who are supposed to make that decision.

I don't think it crosses their minds that players aren't going to tank. They actually need to play for their future.

This is not how it works. Nice try but...no

You lost 6 players to retain 4 others.  You  now have 6 holes to fill without addressing any of that. Those 6 won't be free and the salary cap is contracting. That doesn't seem to be a simple solution as much as more problems.

That’s part of it.

I'm not quite sure if this is what you implied but if it comes down to choosing to keep Moore or RA, you keep Moore.
