Why is it everyone wants to trade away a first round pick. The idea is to build through the draft. Not draft a player, get him up to NFL standards and trade him for a 5th round pick. Who probably won't make the roster.

You do whatever you can to keep those players.

I was watching a show the other day and they talked about New Orleans, Baltimore and KC (I think). They made the point that each of these teams hit on every 1st and 2nd round picks over the past 5 years.

This is our problem.  Hurney is money on round one but normally craps the bed on rounds 2 and beyond.  2020 was better but he has to (or whoever is our GM) MUST hit on our first two picks EVERY YEAR.

You don't hit on them and then trade them away.

I wouldnt say we "hit" on Samuel.  And his value is not going to be worth what its going to cost us to keep him.  We should have traded him instead of letting him walk, which is going to happen.

Rather get a compensation pick than give him away.

Samuel has been money this year and we should do everything to keep him.  If we lose him because he won't accept a decent contract.  Take the comp. pick.

I don't know that anybody wants him gone. I know I don't.

I do think there's some acknowledgment that it could happen though.

Looking at recent seasons of TB, ARI, CLE, SEA, MIN, DAL, BUF, LAR, KC ... I think the league is turning into 3 receiving threats plus a back who can catch passes. Money is being spent on offense for these franchises. I believe in Rhule/Brady system, the purpose is to have as many weapons on the field at once.

that’s being said, I don’t see us trading Moore. He is cheap talent right now, for at least another 2 years.

Trying to copy the formula of another team and follow trends is never a good idea. This works for the original team because of the original combination of player and coach skill and chemistry.

whelp, we could get a second or maybe even a later first.  he's that good, even with his second contract looming and knowing what his position make these days.  One thing in our advantage....lots of flashy WRs come out every year....the question is, will they bust?  will they play to their potential and then become a diva/pain in the ass distraction?  He's prove to be very good on and off the field, quiet performer who has succeeded despite horrible QB play and play calling.

He's got value.   I like him a lot better than Curtis, but Curtis will be cheaper to sign, and I like Robby as WR 1.  I don't see a way we can pay DJ and extend Robby after next year.

And we could use an extra top 50 pick in a big way.

Another big selling point for DJ is that next year his cap hit is $3.5M, and he has a 5th year option.

since I posted that a week ago, I've changed my mind.  I didn't realize Teddy is going to be 29 when his contract expires at the end of the season next year.  I do believe Teddy is a WR1, but DJ is so much younger.  Despite all the health problems Curtis has had, I'm for signing him as well.  Hate to lose Robby, dude is a trip and a damn good receiver, who should still have several good years left.  At least if we sign Curtis we'll have all 3 for one more year.

so.... are you saying that the three of of WRs are not a good combination of player skill and chemistry?

No doubt we need him, but of all players who would make sense to trade, he would have to be near the top of the list.  He would attract offers, and with RA playing well and Curtis developing nicely, an argument could be made that he would bring in enough of a return to warrant a trade.

For what it's worth, I personally want to keep him.
