Lawrence and the Jets...

So is there any actual evidence of Lawrence not wanting to play in NYJ or is this just conjecture? He could just enjoy playing at Clemson and he's probably treated like a monarch on the campus.

Same for the claim about Luck skipping out on us in 2012, is there any real evidence? I'm not so sure that the Colts were necessarily the most appealing option for a QB either following the Peyton fiasco. I didn't follow the draft process and off-season very closely back then though, so I honestly wouldn't know.

Luck and his dad both specifically stated that the Panthers had nothing to do with his decision, but I think a lot of people choose not to remember that.

With Lawrence though? There's enough smoke that the media types are taking it seriously.

But in the end...the Colts didn't do Andrew any favors either. Weird how that worked out.

in the media world I bank it on the fact that the stories of "Does Lawrence hate the Jets?" gets more clicks than "what will the Jets do with Lawrence?"

Selfishly, I’d love it if he stayed at school. It would be fun to see him play again live and it would put our chance at getting him above 0%. I think he’ll either stay in school or play for the Jets. I don’t think he’s come out and tell them they need to trade the pick. Staying at Clemson is a better option than sitting at home.

Lawrence stays....I think DJ transfers out?  DJ didn't come to sit 2 years.   Think the unwritten deal was always 1 year behind Lawrence.  DJ gives Clemson 2 more years of elite QB play.

You can't fault the kid for loving the school but I'm in the camp that if you can make money go make your money. You've already made Clemson a ton of it.

Darnold is on a path to make a whole lot less money than he could have had he been part of a decent franchise.

If he absolutely won't play for them, we should offer them our first, Walker, Grier, Boston, Whitehead, Hurney, Robert Kraft's massage girl and a Jerry Richardson statue for their first round pick.  If that doesn't do it, we'll threaten them with our bear.

That's mostly what I found after looking into it myself, I was just asking around to see if anyone had any hard evidence and if those answers may have just been lip service. One came before the game in 2015, so you'd obviously not want to give the opposing team more motivation when they're 9-0. Personally though, I'd believe him and his father. Luck was a really humble guy and he took some serious poundings behind the Colts OL for years, not to mention the Panthers weren't really a Jets esque trainwreck historically. Certainly mediocre with some terrible years, but not a complete tirefire. Still a little disappointed he retired right as the Colts had finished building up a great line for him, but oh well.

With Lawrence, I reckon we'll just have to wait and see.

well Clemson does have a recent history of first round players opting to stay at Clemson.  Lawrence has seemed to pull back on his initial take of definitely going to the draft.

but yeah, I think Lawrence realizes how going to a trainwreck can kill a career before it starts and is wanting to see how things pan out.

Who are some of the Clemson players who have stayed in school? I don't really follow them too closely.

Interesting question. DJ has played a lot more this year than he was expected to so I think they could easily play him a lot next year. There’s a ton of blowouts, but you make a great point. I’d be shocked if he did transfer because there’s only so many places he could go with the talent around him. I mean most places where he’d have a chance for a NC/NFL/Heisman type chances will have good talent. Would he want to transfer to a place where a better QB who’s not graduating that year could relegate him to the backup spot.

The entire DL (Wilkins, Ferrell and Lawrence) stayed for another season and got a NC. Ettiene stayed this year. That’s 4 first rounders in the past 3 years that stayed for their last year when they were potential first rounders the year before.

I was a big Baltimore Colt fan back when Elway did it to the colts.   I have hated him every since.

If you are a No. 1 pick you are going to a terrible team.

Never was a Elway fan after he stiffed the Colts.  Luck did us the same way too when he returned to school for his Senior year and we ended up taking Cam instead.

Recent history.

Etienne came back this year.  Was projected 1st-2nd round.

That monster defensive line that featured Ferrell, Wilkins, Bryant and Lawrence.  Ferrell, Wilkins were projected 1st-2nd round.   Bryant a day 2 projection.   They all returned.

None of those guys outside of Bryant really had any shot of doing anything but hurting their draft grade IMO.

I think he would just transfer to a legit contender where he obviously would be the starter.  He was the #1 prospect coming out of high school.  Played 2 games with Lawrence hurt and showed why that was....and has the open Dabo endorsements that he makes Trevor Lawrence often look normal.

Take a Georgia.  What are they missing?  He could find a spot.  Even a team happy w/ their QBs would send one packing for DJ IMO.
