A few things.....

PFF

  • Interesting to see Julian Stanford jump that high. Might have to check the film to see how he played.
  • Good to see Bravvion Roy making that jump. Also, Kerr has been very solid (75.3 rating)
  • Douglas had a tough game against Evans and that was reflected in the ratings.

FO

  • Our offensive efficiency is rated the second highest it has been this season(top 10 in Passing DVOA and Rushing DVOA). We were only top 10 in both categories after Week 1(prior to the SOS adjustment).
  • Our FO and Win Rate stats continue to show that we are solid in run blocking but in the bottom third in pass protection, despite Teddy being 3rd in Time To Throw in the NFL.

NFL Next Gen Stats

  • Teddy's stats here are pretty exceptional, especially being 4th in expected completion percentage.
  • It's interesting to see the continued trend of Davis facing a stacked box and performing well against it, versus CMC not seeing nearly as many stacked looks defensively. I think this shows how much the average defense has to game plan around CMC as a receiving threat.
  • DJ doesn't have impressive numbers on the surface but pay attention to his Average YAC Above Expected. This does show how explosive he is when he is making the catches. That's a great example of tape and statistics lining up.

Julian Stanford?

He's been getting some more burn lately. PFF has had him playing well the whole season. Take that with a grain of salt, he has only played 8 defensive snaps all year(6 versus Tampa Bay). He is largely a ST player.

Given that, he has probably "won" 7 of his 8 snaps for that 88 grade.

I mean Teddy’s completion percentage is high for a reason. He throws the ball more than 10-15 yards like 3 times a game

Yeah, he is near the bottom of the league in Average Intended Air Yards. Behind Alex Smith, Drew Brees, Kyle Allen, Jimmy Garoppolo and Andy Dalton. But that does fit with what he is. He's a game manager. He doesn't take a lot of risks and makes high success, low risk throws.

That's just who he is and especially in this offense.

Yep. He's exactly who we thought he was. Need a top 5 defense or at least a turnover generating one to win with a QB like him.

Exactly. That is why I get a chuckle out of the guys freaking out about how "bad" he is or the guys claiming he is a franchise QB. He's neither of those things. He is who he has always been.

TB5 is a guy who allows you to compete while you built or rebuild your roster.  A guy like that can help with free agents, who stop seeing you as a perennial loser and start seeing your team as a consistent winner that just needs some help getting over the hump to be a consistent contender.  It will take time, but I think that's why he's here.  And no, you won't get that with PJ or Grier.

However, I do think that we need to be drafting a QB every year until we find one.  Honestly, there's no excuse for not TRYING to find the guy.  As bad as Grier is, at least we were trying to find a guy.  You definitely won't find him if you aren't looking.

I don't want to reach on a QB in the draft. No more Will Grier/Jimmy Clausen moves. We have so many roster needs that it is nuts. Play our board.
