Honestly people will eventually start looking at the Fields vs Lawrence debate in more detail.  What Fields is doing is fuggin amazing folks...

Plus the reality that in Lawrence's absence, a true freshman has stepped in and is also putting up video game stats.

No sir, grab a QB because that's also a need. LOL. WOW. Let him sit behind Teddy for a year.

Reaching for a qb because of need is a big mistake.  Outside of Lawrence and Fields you are reaching at QB in the top ten.  I dont want a hit or miss pick in the top 10

There's basically no legitimate 1st round QB prospect the Panthers shouldn't take

Having a need at that position outweighs everything else so substantially that nothing else matters

Just because there is a need doesnt mean talent equals need.  QBs get pumped higher draft values because they are QBs , doesn't make them better players than those picked around them.  If we only needed a QB then yes shoot for the moon, but we need a lot of help so pick bpa.

I don't really agree with that. You take the guy that is going to be the best player available. The history of reaching on QB's in the first round is extremely bad. This draft has a couple of elite guys, a guy that might be elite and a bunch of varying levels of potentially good QB's. Get the best player wherever we are drafting, if it happens to be a QB, so be it. There is no reason to overdraft a QB(Will Grier/Jimmy Clausen). We aren't going to be good next year and we have a lot of needs.

I absolutely think we can be good next year.  If we nail the QB we take in the first and they’re someone like Herbert has been this year, we get a good MLB in the second or third (very doable), get a good CB, C or G in the second through fourth (very doable), get whichever we didn’t get in FA and we’ll be looking pretty.

Outside of QB, we have two critical holes in my opinion: MLB and an interior OL. We upgrade one guy on the interior and it’ll help the others play better too, especially if it’s a stud C.  Our other “holes” are more “we could use an upgrade, but we can still be good if we don’t” like replacing Boston and getting a reliable CB to go with Jackson and Anderson, since Jackson has been having a bad year due to his foot.  I also think the secondary will benefit from our incredibly young DL getting some more experience and being more disruptive next year.

You're right, we should Build Around The Quarterback and Prepare The Roster For The Next Guy, then we can draft a flawless prospect at QB at 20 or so in a couple seasons

Or they could just draft a highly regarded prospect and attempt to develop him, and become perennial contenders for a championship, or he could fail and they can try the process again with a high pick in a couple seasons

This is why I didn't like Herbert, but the problem is that as a fan you can't know whether that's due to system or due to QB.

Absolutely. Sometimes these college QBs that play in a one read system adapt to the NFL perfectly and are completely capable of making their reads at the next level. It’s not common, but does happen. Watching Lance, it just doesn’t look like it to me. I see Fields as someone who very well may be able to, Wilson and Trask already do.

San Diego has Herbert and they stink. I don't think a rookie QB is going to instantly change our fortunes, even one like Herbert. We are still an extremely weak team in terms of overall roster talent. It's going to take a lot of work to make us a good team in just two offseasons. I say that knowing how close we are to being a team with a winning record.

Our biggest weakness on the team(and has been for many years) is LT. Reference how much better our OL looked when Okung was playing(the first competent LT we have fielded since Jordan Gross). Aside from that, yes our interior OL needs rebuilding. We need a TE, we could need a WR, we may need a RT, we need backup OL, we need DT's, we need DE's, we need LB's(all), we need safeties, we need CB's.

We are a team with a lot of needs.

San Diego is not winning games with Herbert.  Also next year we will take another lump as we have too many holes to fill.   The thought of the offensive line next year is lol funny.   Samuel is all but gone IMO and Person said its going to take 15mil per to get Moton.  I dont think the team wants to re-up that much on him.  It could be a long year next season as well.

I would love to get Dylan Moses in the 1st and come back with Trask or Mac Jones in the 2nd if available. Maybe even a Jamie Newman. If not, take Wilson or Lance in the 1st and then Surratt or Jabril Cox in the 2nd.

In todays modern NFL why in the hell would anyone want a non mobile qb on a team with a bad offensive line?

I strongly disagree with most of that heh. Yea LT is a need but not immediately. Daley looked ok there, Okung isn’t dead.  We could use a TE, don’t need one. Brady doesn’t seem to value them. WR is the least of our needs, we just need to keep what we have. We don’t need RT at all, Moton is good. We don’t need DTs, we have two or three good ones, just need depth. We could use another DE, but don’t need one. Burns is a star, YGM is looking good, Obada is good depth. We do need LBs at all three spots but if we get a good MLB, it will benefit them all. Shaq isn’t going anywhere anytime soon even though he kinda sucks. He’ll be serviceable with a good MLB beside him.  We could use a Safety to upgrade from Boston, but not a need. With our young guys getting better and a MLB to have better control over the middle of the field, our Safeties can stick to their jobs better.  Another CB is important, but we have a lotta youth and some are looking solid, just need depth guys really, or someone to replace Jackson if his foot keeps being a problem.  We don’t have that many needs.  Most of the needs you listed are “could use an upgrade”, but no team has great players at every position. Our jags are fine in most of those spots, just like other successful teams.

I disagree whole heartedly. I'm not going to give exceptions to the rule in Mahomes. But, if you like a QB you take him in the top 10 regardless. Wilson is a top 10 guy, and Lance is borderline a top 10 guy. Plus, no harm, no foul if you let them sit for a year. Shrugs.

    • Compared to last year I see a shred of light at the end of the tunnel. Last year the team was bad and getting worse. Bryce was a bust. The o and d were terrible. We traded the #1 pick to the bears for said bust. Now Bryce is Hopefully turning the corner.  We might have 3 rookie contributors on offense.  No future has been mortgaged and we have our 1st pick plus the 2nd Morgan stole from the rams.   But the d still sucks
