Talk to me about Trask

I don't really agree with that. You take the guy that is going to be the best player available. The history of reaching on QB's in the first round is extremely bad. This draft has a couple of elite guys, a guy that might be elite and a bunch of varying levels of potentially good QB's. Get the best player wherever we are drafting, if it happens to be a QB, so be it. There is no reason to overdraft a QB(Will Grier/Jimmy Clausen). We aren't going to be good next year and we have a lot of needs.

It wouldn't be a reach though, Wilson and Lance are legit good QB prospects. They are much better prospects than say, EJ Manuel, Johnny Manziel, Paxton Lynch etc. Trask is whatever, though. He's late 1st/2nd round potential and would be a reach.

The book is out on Lance. He seems like the classic boom or bust prospect that basically appears every other draft. Predictably most bust rather than boom. This is definitely looking like a strong QB class but if you removed Lawrence and Fields, it wouldn't be a class that would be considered much more than average. It's largely buoyed by having two elite QB prospects and a lot of quality depth.

I like his accuracy and pocket presence, and he is playing really well. However, I have concerns. Doesn't have ideal arm strength, but enough to make it work with decision making and accuracy. Accuracy is good, but decision making needs to improve. He is playing on a loaded Florida team, and his athletes make plays on balls that should not be thrown, that want work in the NFL. He is not athletic at all, like at all!  His best showing against a top end opponent was against Georgia. However, he did throw a pick 6 in that game, and Georgia was down both starting safeties in that game. I have him as the 6th QB in the draft.

Another guy with low athleticism. Don't be fooled by Alabama QB's. There hasn't been a good one yet, pending Tua results.

True.  But I apply a little of what I do with Fields to Mac.   The Ohio St  and Bama offenses are simply different now.  I don't expect Fields to be a standard Ohio St drafted QB.  Nor do I think Mac is going to McCarron or McElroy.

Meh, Kyler had some records, he's a beast. Burrow has some records, he's damn good. Recently, I can't agree. Prior to the recent QB's, I concur.

Kyler seems to be solidifying himself as a "future" elite QB, although it's probably early to anoint him yet. Burrow has looked okay for what he is working with but he's also by far the least impressive first round rookie QB this season(behind Herbert, Tua). I'd say the book is pretty clearly out on him.

Mayfield, Mariota and Winston were also video game stat guys and all of them have been struggling. Don't get too focused on the Mahomes, Jackson's, etc. Those guys are outliers for a reason. More to the point, those were also guys largely off the elite radar when they were drafted.

To be fair, Mayfield had great numbers his last year. But, it wasn't anything compared to Kyler's or Burrows. Winston had some records his first year starting..............after that............well.

I was never a fan of Mariota. Just meh to me.

Back to Murray. Huge fan of his coming out of OU, I wanted to trade Cam, a first rounder for him, and whatever else needed to be traded for him. I knew he was going to be good. Watched him a ton in College. Kid just has it.

Lastly, I'm STILL not sold on Lamar Jackson. Guys just too inaccurate for me to keep saying he has "it." He's been very pedestrian this year, numbers wise.

I was a Burrow hater/doubter.  Burrow has been great IMO given his situation.  I think he looks the best of the rookie class.   Wouldn't put him behind Herbert.  Tua doesn't have the reps to be ahead IMO.   But Tua has looked good.

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
