Talk to me about Trask

As somebody who watched too much college football because we often draft in the top half of the first here is the offensive line grades from PFF for college football:

BYU at 2 because it’s easy to look good against bad competition. Gators are in the 70s.

There have been teams, through the years, that surrounded average QBs with great defenses and won it all.  Dilfer (Balt), Johnson (TB), Rypien (Was),  Hostetler (NYG), Williams (Was), and Plunkett (Oak). All of these teams had great defenses.  One strategy might be to keep the mediocre QB, build the OL and add some key pieces to the D.

I hope not....

*OFFICIAL KYLE TRASK BANDWAGON MEMBER*

Last year I was on the *OFFICIAL JUSTIN HERBERT BANDWAGON MEMBER*

Me and Hurndog were correct, he's an amazing young franchise QB, day one.

I've evaluated the two guys below Fields, both of whom I question more as high draft picks. Truthfully as NFL ready, day one playable he's light-years above small program prospects. He's bigger than those guys. 6 touchdowns in a game against the arguably the toughest college talent? Like I've said, you can't teach 6'5" 240lbs. If he's operating on a Drew Brees level as far as reads, IQ, he's an NFL investor dream.

These guys with slight frames that can't see and throw over their line like NFL ready rookie QBs like Kyle Trask scare me. I need a QB I'm getting Trask @8-10 with a smile. Look what he's doing! 34 TD 3INT! When was the last time a Carolina QB did that?

Trask is the guy if we miss on Fields. He's that prototype.

Here is The Draft Network's write up on him post-2019 season, @Jeremy Igo. I believe he has made some corrections to his mechanics, although admittedly I have not watched much UF other than highlights this season.

The never having started in HS is an interesting factoid. That also means you are going to be getting a guy that is extremely, extremely raw in his development.

Hungry.  Prepared.

I'm about to the point that I'm on the "anyone but Teddy" train. Just being honest.

I think we are all on that boat but if we can keep Moton and get Trask we would have one of the better lines in the NFL. With that built it would be a lot easier on a franchise QB who ever we draft for that.

I was a Herbert guy too but it was because Herbert was a great athlete and has a cannon for an arm. He literally has almost every thing you want in a modern NFL QB.

Trask is not that guy. The more film I watch on him, the more I am convinced we shouldn't be spending a pick on him. I get he is a big dude but he also doesn't have a lot of other "big QB" traits, like the big arm. He also isn't a great athlete.

Right now there are a few of the best QB's in the NFL that are "slight frame" guys and they don't have issues seeing over their line. That's old school mentality and that is the reason like why guys like Russell Wilson got drafted in the third round. The NFL doesn't think that way anymore because the smaller guys have had plenty of success in the NFL.

The smaller guys account for much smaller % in the NFL, Doug Flutie, yeah. Those linebackers and lineman are huge. A larger frame usually helps for longevity. He can run, fast enough. He's got that zip in his fastball. Nice tight spirals to distance, catchable balls, not too hot. Great with timing. A Joe Brady dream.

All I'm saying is he should be the third rated QB coming out this year. Yes, measurables will push one guy above others. Watch.

Maybe third "best" QB available but time and Superbowls will tell like Russ Wilson.

He's an obvious upgrade at QB much more like what we're used to at QB. Cam is still in the league because of his huge frame.

Do you think Teddy could have taken the beatings we witnessed Cam absorb and keep playing? No.

There are plenty of big QB's that have been injured a bunch in the NFL. Heck, that's why Big Ben cut weight and changed his playing style. Conversely, Drew is an example of a small and light guy that has had an extremely long career. Far longer than much physically bigger QB's than a guy like Andrew Luck.

Any QB in the NFL is going to have a short career if you can't protect them, it doesn't matter how big they are. I'd like to see this evidence to support the idea that being a bigger QB helps with longevity or durability. That's kind of my point, a lot of that old school thought process is basically gone now. If you can play, you can play. If you are inherently injury prone, that usually rears it's head long before you are in the NFL.

He isn't nearly as talented as Russell Wilson(a very small guy, BTW). I don't agree that he is the third best QB in this draft, either.

Cam is a terrible example. He is literally broken down by the battering he has taken in the NFL.
