Yeah, people acting like this season is a massive disappointment don't recall just how bad UNC was under the likes of Torbush and Bunting and Fedora's later years. They're heading in the right direction, just not quite enough talent yet in the trenches to hang with the top tier teams.

But the FSU and UVA losses were on the staff. Sorry, but they didn't have that team ready to play in those games.

He's had what two seasons of recruiting.  He's a great recruiter.  I think after he has a full four years of recruits he'll have the Tarheels competing for the ACC title.

He's a stopgap. He's a guy to right the ship while you identify the long-term option. It has definitely paid off because if Mack isn't there then Howell is at FSU and UNC is a dumpster fire despite the talent at RB and WR.

This is true. But Howell being there only matters if it translates into a big year next season. If not....having the best QB talent in school history didn't matter. That's kind of what I am getting at. You can't be a middle to lower tier college football program and squander talent like that, especially in a very weak conference.

Howell being there will definitely help offensive recruiting.

Agreed but he is only there one more year(most likely). Ask Florida St. how difficult it is to find an elite or even above average QB. Or Miami or Virginia Tech or Tennessee or....

I think Drake Maye will pick up the torch and keep running with it. He probably won't be Howell, but I think he'll probably be pretty damn good. He had offers from the who's who of college football - Alabama, Clemson, OSU, Georgia, etc. He was previously committed to Alabama before Howell started lighting it up last year.

The same way he got Howell.  He's a great recruiter.

If it works out that way, sure. But, all those QB's that flamed out at the schools I am talking about were 4 and 5 star recruits, ESPN 300, etc, etc.

Like I said, don't take it for granted when you have an elite QB. For teams outside the top 30 programs in college football, it doesn't come around often. That is why I will stand by my statement that next year kind of has to be the year to make that leap. Especially with King gone from Miami.

I mean, we just had Trubisky who went #2 overall.

I mean.....I don't even know that I would consider Trubisky an elite college QB. Good point, though.

I would.  3748 yards for 30 TDs vs. 6 INTs while completing 68% of attempts is elite. Not to mention the 308 rushing yards with 5 TDs on the ground and actually catching another.

That's pretty elite.

I wouldn't disagree that he had a very good performance in his junior season, I would very much disagree that he was an elite college QB. He definitely struck while the iron was hot in going pro, that is what I will say.
