CMC to miss multiple weeks

NAS

I agree although he may have financial incentives to keep playing.

I can’t help but wonder if the pandemic impacted his physical readiness to play this year, or maybe all the off the field stuff with modeling.  Just kidding!

hope he is ready to prove his worth again next year.

Yeah he needs to sit out. We need him when this team is actually good. But I am getting bad Gurley vibes now.

Gurley’s knee was already shot before they gave him an extension. CMC’s injuries are not significant, yet

Just curious, I know he has a shoulder injury but I have yet to hear the nature/full extent of the injury.

I'd like to see him back on the field, but I understand the reasoning of sitting him for the rest of the year. They've got a lot invested in him and he makes a huge difference when he plays.

Next season the team needs to limit his touches. Christian is a small guy. He needs to be used the way Tom Landry used Tony Dorsett. Tony only had 3 seasons of over 300 carries (1981, 1984, 1985). Yet he rushed for over a 1,000 yards ever year from 1977-1985 (with the exception for the 9 game strike season in 1982). Those old enough to remember him know he was an effective runner and pass receiver up until his early 30's. He credited his longevity to Landry rarely allowing him to exceed 20 carries per game.

I know the history of paying a running back but this is kind of a stupid comment in our situation. CMC is the best back in the league when he is on the field. He’s still only 24, is a three down running back and this is the first time he’s been hurt. It’s also not some serious injury like in Barkley’s case. We saw what he did two weeks ago coming back against the Chiefs. This is more of shutting CMC down for the season because there is nothing to prove in a season that is already over.

He had 2 years remaining.  There was absolutely no reason to sign him to a record contract.  You can argue and try and make excuses as to why we should have done it but it was absolutely moronic to do so.  It goes against all analytics that Tepper was preaching.  CMC was not going to sit out without a new deal.  Now he is paid and now he is hurt just like a bulk of us posters thought would happen after the team ran him into the ground for the past 2 seasons

Shut him down.   Also, we probably should have waited to resign for sure, but Hurney is Hurney.

Not a fan of Hurney at all,  but I can understand his reasoning on this one. QB's are often hitting their peak when they turn 30. Most RB's have peaked at the same age. Christian will be 29 when his contract expires. Until this season he had been one of the most durable backs in the league. I see why Hurney would want to extend him during the prime years of his career. Had he waited he waited until the rookie deal expired he'd be 26 (possibly older if he was franchised) and probably on downside of his career.

This year has been a bummer all around. Hopefully, Christian will bounce back. All the time away from the field may actually improve his performance in 2021. I have a hard time believing that the 1,000/1,000 season in 2019 didn't have atl least a small effect on his health this season.

we saw what happened with Dak  and Barkley

To be fair, Dak did get a contract . . . the dude is making 31 million this year.  Yes, he has nothing for next year, but rest assured his "worst case" scenario is another 38 million next year.  Yea, he got hurt, but either Jerry pays him this offseason for what he's accomplished, or he franchises him.  Those are the options.  Franchise tag for a QB is expected to be 38 million.

The other difference is that Dak was not a first round pick.  There was no fifth year for him.

Saquon is something different altogether.  He still has a contract through the end of next season.  2020 is only his third year in the league.  As a first round pick, the club also has an option for 2022.  Effectively, there was/is NO reason for the Giants to do anything for him.  A team that wants to compete NEEDS those high quality players on rookie deals in order to make the financials work out.

Christian has an extra season over Saquon, and one less than Dak.

    • Qbs aren't defined by physical abilities. Brady, Brees, Manning, Montana, Warner,.....doesn't seem to correlate.

    • If we are going to spend the money anyway, maybe the signing is not as bad as it seems.  Mays outperformed Corbett (before his injury and if you go back to last year, Corbett has been below average) and then Christensen took the job and Mays quickly took it from him and never looked back.  He could use improvement reaching to the next level (LBs) but picking up stunts and blitzes---he was surprisingly good.  Run blocking needs some work, but he is 25.  Corbett, in my view, should be G/C depth and if Mays steps back, he is there.  Mays should start because this team is building for the future and 30 year old players are not building blocks.  We shall see.  That is how I think about it, but there are many factors we do not know. Having said that, I like what Zavala is doing, and I do not want to bring in someone who would take opportunities away from him.  Zavala was really good at RG down the stretch, and in limited duty, was awesome. In fact, we have a guard from the PS who played briefly and did well, but he only played a few plays.  He is 25 and I recall that fans of his former team were upset when we signed him.   Maybe as the backup center only (Corbett).  You need 2 centers to run practices efficiently.  I cannot say enough about the OL coaches on this staff.  What they have done is overshadowed by the Lewis / Hunt signing.  Mays, Ekwonu, Zavala--impressive growth.
