Smitty

If you've got feedback for the coaching staff, do it behind closed doors. Not on gameday. The only thing that Smith and Jake's outbursts do is bring down team morale and expose a weakness to our opponents.

or maybe as it was hinted at earlier (Beason comments, Smith comments, etc.)....Fox and company have simply lost this team. Obviously, it isn't just Smith who has problems with what is occuring on the sidelines....he and Jake have repeatedly blown up at what they are doing or not doing. Jake doing it means a little something....

You all talk about Smitty as if his head is on straight. It's not, and THAT is the problem. You are saying "you don't trade away such a talented player", when in fact he isn't producing here. You trade him while other teams think of him the same way you are thinking of him, because there isn't a white knight quarterback coming to save the day, and Fox is in danger of losing the team the rest of the way.

I'm not sure who we could trade Smith to, and get someone of equal value. If we do get a receiver of his value, then they are also going to be quite upset when they don't get the ball. If we don't get a receiver out of it, we will have the worst receiving core in NFL history, most likely.

Someone needs to yell at the coaching staff, because it's obviously not getting in their heads that we aren't as effective if we have no down the field threat. No one has any problem with a coach screaming at players when they mess up (yes I know, the whole "he's your boss" thing) but I have no problem with a player yelling at a coach when he is obviously ruining the team's chances.

I just re-watched the game specifically for this thread.

You couldn't be more right about Smith right now. The cussing at the coaches and throwing the ball towards the coaches direction is ridiculous. I don't care how good a player the guy is, no one...and I repeat NO ONE comes before the team.

Smith has every reason to be upset with the playcalling and the poor QB play, but as a professional you can't conduct yourself in that manner on the field. (If you rewatch the game, take a look at the shock on Jon Beason's face when Smith is berading Davidson). This kind of conduct in detrimental to the team as a whole.

I love Smith. He is hands down, far and above the most entertaining reciever i've ever watched play. I love his passion and his grit. He has bailed Jake out time and time again, and has done great things for this organization. But, he needs to mature. He is past due on chances to mature. There is no since in his outburst. <<<---On that note. Jake needs to clean his attitude up as well. I've seen him screaming at the coaching staff a lot more on the sidelines this year.

If you've got feedback for the coaching staff, do it behind closed doors. Not on gameday. The only thing that Smith and Jake's outbursts do is bring down team morale and expose a weakness to our opponents.

Good points and I agree, as I mentioned he should complain privately. But we're talking ONE GAME here, people. A HUGE game a that. A game where tensions were beyond high for everyone on the field.

Smith indeed acted like a jerk and a fool...but again...ONE GAME. What else has he done that's been so God awful this season? A pissed off interview a few weeks ago? Give me a break. The OP is acting like this is a weekly occurance from Smith and we should get rid of him while the getting's good. If Smith acted this way week in and week out, yes...he's a problem. But he doesn't. Give him a better QB and he's back to making plays and you won't even think twice about trying to get what you can for him in the off-season.

This was a HUGE game and he lost his cool. He's lost it in the past, yes, but he's done far more better for this team than negative. If you want a team of perfect little angels, I suggest you haters go cheer for the Colts...or watch the LPGA.

I agree with you whole heartedly. I think trading smith would be a foolish move unless you got a deal that absolutely blew you away. The criticism of the coaching staff isn't just Smith either. It is pretty uniform througout the team. Beason often times shows displeasure about players being out of place on defense.

The only problem I have is the way Smith and Jake handle themselves on the field when they are upset.

I can be a little more leniant with Jake due to him being the QB, and a good deal of his frustration is due to the plays not getting to him on time. And i'm not so upset about Smith's outburst, due to what you mentioned aobut the type of game this was in the atmosphere. In all honesty, I was more upset when he went to media talking about him not being an asset to the team after a win. I thought that was worse than his outburst yesterday.

In the end....Just shut up and play. Do what is asked of you and earn your pay check. H*** there are millions of people in the U.S. who would love to take home the pay check these guys are making in one game.

Ding ding ding. Actually, it wasn't worse than cussing out your coaches on the sideline and throwing something at them, but it showed where his head is.

Smith is allowed to be pissed off. He is not above the team but he has carried us for years and his input should mean something. He shouldn't be mouthing off to the coaches. But if you think about it, don't you think somebody should be telling the coaches what's up?

There is something more to Smith's dramatic drop off in production. And if you ask me it's mainly due to the cause and effect Jakes play has on the consistency and predictability of the offense. Our attack plan has been figured out and the only thing keeping the offense going right now is best RB in the league, best #2 RB in the league and one of the better offensive line's in the game. We are scoring out of shear superior talent.

To those defending Smitty....

How do you immediately fix this problem?

Do you jeopardize each game in letting Jake throw the ball down the field with his inaccuracy and happy feet? Lets not forget, Smith was showing his emotion early in the season even when we were throwing the ball down the field to him.

Davidson is completely handcuffed by the Delhomme downfall. In order for this team to be competitive in games and have a chance to win, you absolutely have to keep the ball out of delhomme's hands. He has proved this year, that when you put it in his hands....he is going to fail.

I'm sorry, but I would much rather Piss Steve Smith off and be competitive in these games, then throw the ball 12 times his way, have him catch 8 balls for 120 yds, Jake throw 2 picks, and us lose the game.

Just my opinion of course

It's easy, you fire all the coaches and get 54 new players around Smitty.

I'd rather start Matt Moore. Its better than babying and cradling Delhomme with scared play calling. The playoffs are pretty much out of reach at this point. There's no reason to start Delhomme anymore. He has played at virtually the same level all season and he hasn't been good enough to win.

I'm in the same boat as you. But I can only help but wonder, what if Moore flounders? Would the playcalling be any different if Moore is in there?

I think Fox would still play the conservative run 3/4 of the game and pass on a few occasions. Its obvious that the coaching staff has limited faith in Moore (as well founded or mis placed as that may be...we won't know till we see him in action again).

But if there mindset is that Moore isn't and upgrade, I don't think they would open the playbook up for him.

the big cheese in Tenn realized the season was over....Collins was old and done....and that it was the perfect time too evaluate Young to see if he was worth keeping.

the Big Cat needs to tell Fox we all know what Jake can do....let's see what your 2nd best option can do......b/c your evaluation of where guys belong on a depth chart has always been questionable.
