Smitty

You guys are missing the point. Steve Smith and Julius Peppers are the most talented players on the team, by far. But you don't let them cuss you out in front of everyone on the sidelines. You don't let them run downfield on a pass play late in the game and not even look up. In football, you need to know that everyone is rowing in the same direction. Smitty stopped a long time ago. He's upset because he's not getting his individual numbers. He's even airing it out in the press.

How would you feel if Beason said "Aw to hell with it, I'm not going to make as many plays with Kemo out this year." You'd be pissed. But for some reason Smitty, who has been given second, third, and fourth chances with this franchise, always gets the free pass.

The highlighted I agree with.....the rest not so much. He has a right to be upset about his career not advancing because of the dumb sh!t that is going on.

If you kept getting held back on your job because of other inept people....you would be upset as well. Just that plain and simple.

If the coaches aren't trying (neutering Jake while bleating "BEST CHANCE TO WIN" isn't trying) I don't blame anyone for throwing their hands up at this point.

If Fox stays, and with the awesome direction he's taking the team, we don't really need a WR, so trade him. Just line up 3 TE every play, we're not going to go deep more than once a half anyways and they can block the other 80% of the time when we run up against 8/9 in the box.

As well as we were running the ball yesterday you can not convince me that there were only 2 times that we had a chance to go deep during the entire game.

I understand that Jake is not playing well lately but you have to take at least a few shots down the field. Even if you just tell Jake, "Throw it as far as you can, just make sure it isn't even close to anyone.". Our gameplan sucks week in and week out.

We either throw it way too much or run it way too much, there is such a thing as balance that we have not had all season. I'm not talking about running it as much as we throw or vice versa, I'm talking about making a D at least wonder what in the hell might be coming next.

I would be upset if I were Smith too. You are one of the most talented players in the league and you have to go your whole career with Jake Delhomme who is slightly above average at his absolute best, below average normally and a team that hasn't been able to get a legit #2 to get coverage off of you in about 6 years. Since Moose left we've gone through Keyshawn, Colbert, Old Moose and now Jarrett and each one sucks worse then the last and then you see proven #2s like Houshmanzadeh, Stokely, Welker, etc. go in free agency to other teams and we don't even get involved.

We have an elite WR and we build a team and play like a team that doesn't know hes there. The coachign staff/GM/QB is the reason Smith isn't racking up numbers that would have us talking about the HOF and have him going to Hawaii every year.

Yeah......that amazes me too. Let's get rid of one of the most dynamic players in the NFL, and keep a worthless QB.

Gotcha! ;)

its funny that we have a great passionate wr and people want to trade him...who the *** will we have after smith dwayne jarrett? are you guys fuging kidding me?

Smith is the least of our problems... and $hit rolls downhill...

Get rid of Fox, and with him go Davidson and Jake... When THAT happens, our offensive troubles are as good as solved...

Refusal to bench Jake, horrid playcalling (running it down an undefeated team's throats and then come out passing down after down?!?!??), and an overal lack of offensive cohesion (how many games does it take to get your playcalls in in time?) are the main problems.. It starts with Fox, travels to Davidson, and then to Jake... Smitty is doing what anyone passionate about being competitive would be doing, and that includes any of you...

When you're doing all you can to help a team stay afloat while there are 3 obvious holes in the ship, you're bound to start being dragged down to the abyss with them...

Honestly, I am surprised Smitty lasted this long... He has every right to be as upset as he was, and every right to be public about it... It's obvious "keeping things internal" hasn't changed anything...

Yea, let's get rid of Smith, that will make us much better.

We can't enter the FA market when GM Hurney pumps 17 million into Pepper's pocket. Smitty is a Diva, like most great WRs in this league. But the man has tremendous passion, something this team needs badly. We need a staff who will get that passion going in the right direction.

The purpose of trading Smith is to get GOOD value while he still has value. Riding players to their ineffectiveness creates a great story surrounding that player, but takes the focus away from building the franchise.

Stupidest moves by this franchise were holding DeAngelo behind Foster for as long as they did. Holding onto Morgan over Spoon. Signing Jake to long term. I like the recent drafts...but honestly...I don't see the benefit in our "first round" pick in Brown right now. I'd rather have those picks in a QB heavy year. Only way to repair that is sell high on players that you and I both know are going to be on their downhill segment of their career age-wise.

I own a 89 jersey...not replica junk either...but I'm a Carolina Panther fan first.

It's not a smack in the face of Smitty, but more of a realization of what it's going to take to build the franchise back.

This wins the "Dumbest Thread of the Year" award. Steve Smith is the best player in franchise history. He is one of the best playmakers in this league. He has been the heart and soul of this team since he got here. His hotheadedness and cockiness is exactly what makes him as good as he is. Can you honestly blame him for being pissed off that his last years in the NFL are being completely wasted playing with the most pathetic quarterback in the league in a totally one-dimensional offense?

This whole argument is irrelavent. Smith will never be traded.

Name one WR we've acquired, drafted or developed that's been worth a poo since Fox became coach.

Smith leaves, we've got absolutely nothing at WR and don't know how to get another.
