Smitty

Depends on the team, doesn't it?

You look for a team that is contending but sorely lacking the WR department...or just a situation where a team thinks it can revive 2005 Smitty for another couple of years....Cincinnati? Baltimore? San Diego?

I bet those teams would give you at least a second rounder.

So is it true teams can't trade any more? I know the trading deadline passed just recently, but they still make trades in baseball after the so-called deadline.

Trade Smitty to the Chargers for maybe the 55th pick in the draft next year.

Let me think.

NO.

Interesting though you think a guy who next year will be a 9 year vet, aged 31 and is such a cancer on a team he needs to be blown out is worth a 2nd.

The point is he's not producing. He has given up on Jake, pure and simple. And once you've gone there, you're not coming back.

I'm not saying Jake's play has in any way been acceptable. I'm saying you have a volatile WR who is already a cancer in the locker room and it's only going to get worse.

Um Who hasn't given up on Jake?

Fox?

That's about it, and he needs to go worse than Jake needs to go.

Smith is too much of a weapon to let go, honestly. Get a coach with balls that will put him in his place, get a new QB who will get the ball to him, and we'll be fine.

This franchise is one or two players away from being incredibly good. Are you telling me that through free agency and the draft we can't muster up enough to get one QB who's solid (he doesnt have to be great, just SOLID) and maybe a complimentary WR for smith, and a good free safety? Look what our offense did last year when jake was on the lower end of mediocrity. we absolutely lit it up. stick a SOLID quarterback in and most of our woes go away. fox could even win with a team like that.

We're actually good at free safety now. Sherrod Martin says hi.

I agree though. Cut Fox and Delhomme and Davidson.

Would never get equal value for him. The Pats gave a turd sandwich and a pat on the ass to the Raiders for one of the best WRs ever to play the game at age 30. There is no way we get equal value for Smitty.

Get a new coach in here and a QB that can actually throw the ball accurately and you wouldn't have a WR that is bitching.

IMO Smitty has been the model of a team player since he arrived at this franchise. Sure he is temperamental but what WR wouldn't be with Jake Delhomme as their QB. He throws every single freaking pass high and over the middle. Smitty has NEVER bitched about getting hit and has always played hard. Through the halfway point in the season he has 478 yards and ONE touchdown. This is the guy that was probably the best overall offensive weapon in the game not even 2 years ago. And its not like he has lost a step...He can still burn.

There is a huge difference between the quarterback yelling "Come on, get the ****ing play to me" and a wide receiver yelling "Don't call that ****ing play again" or throwing the ball toward his own sideline.

Let me make something clear (God, I'm Obama now)....I don't think Smitty should be gone for stuff he does off the field. If that were the case he should have been gone long ago. I'm talking the insubordination he has shown recently. If you keep Smitty, then fire your coaches for putting up with that crap. Because there's no way the other players will respect a coach who lets him get away with that. There's already the perception in that locker room that Peppers and Smith do what they want.

Jake has yelled at the coaches in more ways than just, "get me the play faster, please sir.". I don't know how you've missed that this year. But we let it go, and his cry baby tantrums go, because he is "firey". T.O. and Moss have given WRs a bad name in recent memory and you know what? The media THRIVES on pushing this drama down our throats, acting like it's the most heinous thing since Hitler. But it's not. Once again, Meat, every single team in the NFL has bickering players behind the scenes. If you've seen that, or heard that about Smith...more power to you. That's for the team to deal with. What matters outside of the lockeroom (as you just mentioned, and I bolded) is what Smith says to the media and how he acts on the field.

Just what has he done so far this season that we, the viewers/listeners, should crucify him for? The "lack of faith interviews" about his best buddy Jake? Those have come and gone. His pissed off attitude we've seen? The dude is a winner and a playmaker and he is fed up. Sure it's unprofessional but it's far from being cancerous. Oh, his now FAMOUS ball throw and cuss out you keep harping on? Please show me media links, Meat, but you are the only person that I know of that are even talking about this. ESPN isn't, Charlotte.com isn't. Why on earth do you make such a big deal about it?

Again, if the camera had never shown it...you'd be keeping silent about "what you know" most likely. You're making way to big of a deal about this. Players get pissed each and every week. It's human nature. Let the team take care of the god awful team member you make Smith out to be...because other than you telling us...not a damn soul outside of those "in the know" even know Smith is such a "bad seed".

He is the most recognizable player yes... but I think you go to far when you say we're on the "cusp of destruction"

There's comes a time when you let loose your veteran players. The teams that know when to do that are good ones. It's time for Steve Smith to go. His best days are behind him and he's no longer worth the trouble he causes, as he's just a good WR now. He's not a super star.

Dear God. We'll let go of Smith, when the Steelers let go of Hines Ward, and the Pats tell old man Moss to hang it up. Some of you act like the dude is running down field with a damn walker. Sure he's not as fast as he was in his twenties, but if you want to get rid of vets...why not start with Moose? The only reason his numbers are crap are because of Jake. If Smith were tearing it up this season you'd all be on his jock.

This is the dumbest thread I've ever read in my life. But you all go on saying he's a cancer and is slower than Otah when running downfield.
