Smitty

To those defending Smitty....

How do you immediately fix this problem?

His tantrum problem? Until he does that EVERY WEEK...he doesn't have a tantrum problem. If you're THAT worried about it, have someone on the team sit with him and just tell it like it is: "You ain't getting the ball, Steve. Sorry. Keep your head in the game and let's just go do...what we're told."

Do you jeopardize each game in letting Jake throw the ball down the field with his inaccuracy and happy feet? Lets not forget, Smith was showing his emotion early in the season even when we were throwing the ball down the field to him.

This is not fixable until someone can take the pressure off him. The question is...when Moose comes back, who gets the other look? Him, or a POSSIBLY improving Jarrett, and a WR and TE who have caught balls recently (Moore and Barnidge)?

Davidson is completely handcuffed by the Delhomme downfall. In order for this team to be competitive in games and have a chance to win, you absolutely have to keep the ball out of delhomme's hands. He has proved this year, that when you put it in his hands....he is going to fail.

True. Davidson is also handcuffed by Fox though. Jake has now had TWO games without an INT. Nothing speaks MORE than how much Fox trusts Jake and how much he wants to run his game than late in the 3rd or the start of the 4th (I forget). We had third and like six to go at mid-field. Tie game. We end up punting. Fox wanted to have our D save the day again. What happens? Saints go all the way downfield for the 3-point lead. Had they gone for that first down...they may have made it.

I'm sorry, but I would much rather Piss Steve Smith off and be competitive in these games, then throw the ball 12 times his way, have him catch 8 balls for 120 yds, Jake throw 2 picks, and us lose the game.

Just my opinion of course

Fair enough...but other than T.O., Lee Evans, Dwayne Bowe, Houshmandzadeh, and Santana Moss, QBs are getting their #1 the ball...even with double teams. It CAN be done. But our playcalling, and lack of a #2 makes it that much harder (and obviously Jake).

Interestingly enough, Roy Williams griped that he wasn't getting the ball enough. He caught 8 passes in the win over the Iggles.

I find it almost impossible to believe that we can't get Steve open enough in coverage. Who's the inept one? Davidson with his call? Steve with signs of age showing? Or Jake?

There's a difference between calling a player out and yelling, screaming, cussing and throwing stuff at your coach on the sideline in a game.

What Beason did wasn't right, but it needed to be done. All he did was ask a fellow defensive player to play a bit harder.

What smith did wasn't right at all and there's nothing you can do to justify it.

Huge difference between the two incidents.

I was talking moreso about getting him the ball, without risking the numerous turnovers. Jake didn't throw the ball all that much yesterday and two of his passes were tipped in the air and could have been picked. Barnidge also bailed him out.

As for your last one about who is inept...

I would say Jake is the most inept which in turn is killing the way Davidson can call a game. There is no doubt in my mind that Davidson wants to put the ball in Smith's hands, but he can't risk jeopardizing the entire team's chance at a win by letting jake hurl the ball into double coverage with his weak arm and inacuracy.

Smith hasn't been exactly sharp on his route running this year, either. But this isn't near the factor that Jake is.

I think Davidson is catching a good deal of undeserved flack. He deserves his fair share (mainly due to his gameplan against Buffalo), but piling on him in this situation is a bit unfair. He knows he can't put the entire team in jeopardy by letting jake sit back there dance and turn it over, so he is forced to run the ball, which in turn limits the touches smith gets and also limits his looks.

I hate it for all parties involved because, when clicking...these three guys were pretty good last year.

Smith didn't throw anything

And Jake was yelling at them too, matter of fact he yelled at them a few games

So therefore, I do think it was right

Fast forward it to our final drive and watch his actions after his long catch, and also watch in which direction he lets the ball go.

I'm embarrased that you think it was "right" to yell at a coach by either Jake or Smith. We as fans yelling at coaches and showing our frustration is one thing, for the guys, who are supposed to be collectively working towards the same goal, is another.

There is a place for emotion filled tirades, and it is behind the closed doors of the locker room, not on the field.

To all the Smith supporters, I understand to a point your reluctance to pin anything on him and especially to think of him in another uniform. I'm not a Panthers fan, but I went through a situation as a Rams fan years ago....Eric Dickerson. He kept bitching and bitching about the team in the press, and then he did something stupid on the field on a Monday Night game and spent the rest of the game in a poncho. Couple of days later he was traded. If you think Smitty is the Panthers franchise...ED was the face, the body, the arms and the legs of the Rams at that time. So I get all that. I really do.

But there comes a time when pampering and catering to one guy is detrimental to the rest of the organization. The Panthers have been doing it with Smith and Peppers for years now. Difference is, Smith is another physical confrontation waiting to happen. He can't help it. It's just his nature. What I'm seeing...the comments about not being an asset, the tantrums in the Saints game, giving up on that deep ball late in the game (sorry, that's the way I saw it and I watched it several times)...it's just time for him to go. And you know what? He probably WANTS to go. Why else would you cuss out the man responsible for calling your number?

So, what you're saying is you think Fox doesn't want to win???

Now i'm no big Fox supporter, and I'm ready for the change. But this statement is laughable. Do you think Fox wants to be fired? Do you think he wants to move his family to another city?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and take your last statement as sarcasm rather than the uneducated verbal diarreha that it is.

To those of you saying it needs to be handled behind closed doors. Do you have ANY idea if Smith has tried? No, you have no idea if Smith has already tried to resolve this behind closed doors. Then when that didn't work, he tried through his post-game press conference. And now that that isn't working, he is frustrated.

No one is above the team. You are right about that. But no coach is above the team either. And when the coach isn't doing what is best for the team week in and week out, then I can't say I blame them for acting out. When he caught that big pass he looked over to the sideline like "see you idiots? see what happens when we throw down field?"

Very Valid points. I'll rep when I can.

The team has been pampering and catering to Jake too. Far more than those 2 guys, and difference is, Smith & Peppers make plays. Look, I understand what entertains us, is your job. I understand you see things we dont and probably have a different perspective. Im just telling you as an NFL fan I DONT GIVE A fug. I dont work around Steve Smith, I dont know the man and dont have to, so I dont care about that stuff. All I know is on Sunday the guy makes plays and is a leader for us on the football field. If he's out there getting chippy wit the coaches in a tough division game, I LOVE THAT! This team is as bland as a hamburger, and #89 is the A1 that gives us that flavor. #89 isnt the problem, the problem is our "you dont need an elite QB" philosophy has caught up to us in an ever changing league.

what exactly happened? I never saw anything while watching the game.....

We threw a little screen pass to Smith for like the 19th time in 3 games, and he got hit late out of bounds...after he gave Sharper a piece of his mind, he screamed toward the coaching staff something along the lines of "quit calling that stupid-ass play." And then later when he caught a big pass down the field when the game was essentially over, he looked over to the sideline after throwing the ball in that direction and held his arms up.

And thanks BigDogg.:D
