Are we content with what we're getting from Derrick Brown

Production doesn't always show up in the stat columns

Especially for defensive tackles.

You have to have at least a modicum of football knowledge to truly be able to see whether a guy like Brown is doing well.

If you're the kind of person that only goes by stats or highlight reels, you're not gonna get it.

I think the bigger issue is that most fans have a problem with admitting they are wrong on draft takes. And I don't mean that to say they actively wish them poorly, but they make a judgment about who they wanted and can't see past that. IIRC, OP wanted Simmons(who is looking like a project) instead of Brown. Could be wrong about that but I seem to remember him being one that was enamored with the Underwear Olympics results.

Hmmm.. I agree that a lot of the times fans are extremely stubborn about their draft day takes and tend to cling onto them hard since they usually aren't even watching the player that they were clamoring for which makes it easier to hold onto that opinion. But to play devil's advocate, I think it's a bit early to say that Brown was definitively the better pick.

The majority of the (rational) users in the Simmons camp expected him to take longer to develop,  there were still questions about how he'd fit into an NFL defense and he seemed to be pretty raw. With a team that was looking to enter a 5 year process as Tepper put it, picking up a project with extreme athletic gifts seemed like a fine pick. He'd grow along with the rest of our roster in what many of us expected to be a long rebuild. Granted, I am happier with getting Brown just because of how our overall draft shook out in hindsight, but in the first round we had no real way of knowing if we'd actually end up with Chinn or not. It also seems this team will be competing much sooner than any of us anticipated.

Another side note, after that clutch interception in overtime he had against Seattle, Simmons played 53% of the snaps last week and logged 4 solo tackles. Certainly not a world beater, but that's noticeably higher than the snaps he was logging prior to that big interception. His highest games outside of that 53% was a game where he played 29% of the snaps, followed by 24% and then nothing else above 20%.

Who would you rather have Star or Aaron Donald . Exactly that  hidden stat poo can only take you so far . N no one is saying brown suck i thinks the question went over a lot of you guys head . Based on his position he was taken was he worth it . And honestly that’s to be determine . Not cause he suck but because he was taken so high .

It's not as clear cut that anyone who didn't want him was wrong. A lot of the hesitation around him was based on positional value, and that hasn't changed. He's still a run-stuffing defensive tackle and there are still a bunch of offensive tackles, corners, and receivers who could've been taken around that spot who've been really good.

Says the guy who usually just hides behind a poo emoji...

"Doth protest too much" applies here I think :)

It's funny. Not that long ago we went all in on pass rush only to sit back and watch teams run all over us at a damn near historic level. Yet people still don't value run stuffing ability on the line.

Likewise, people get excited when we draft a skill position player vs an offensive lineman, then get upset when we can't get the skill position player the ball because the quarterback got knocked on his ass due to lousy blocking.

The exciting positions aren't the only ones you need to build a winning team.

Well dang...never thought of it that way!  Star or arguably the best defensive player in football....hmm.

If you're trying to make some point about positional value of a 1-tech vs. a 3-tech DT, then maybe don't compare a decent player to the league's best.  "Who would you rather have...Christian McCaffrey or Alex Smith?  EXACTLY!  RBs are more valuable than QBs".
