Could Jeremy Chinn be converted to MLB?

He lines up at MLB in Dime packages.

A lot of users bemoaned Phil Snow's 3-safety looks prior to the season, but the versatility is something to see. Chinn can be on the field and is either the sam, nickel, or strong safety spots. When you've got other versatile players like Brian Burns that can rush the passer or drop back into coverage, Zach Kerr who can line up anywhere on the LOS, Sam Franklin who can play safety or linebacker as well, etc it makes it super difficult for offenses to get a read on what's going on. Snow has even said that the defense looks at the DBs group as just that, the DBs. Not CBs and Safeties.

I'm a big fan of the mindset, personally. We see what versatile players for the offense like CMC, DJ, and Curtis can do (could you imagine this offense with a TE!?) and now we're really getting to see what they can do on defense. I'm getting some 2015 defense vibes, but the roster has a long way to go. Being able to rush four with tall, long, athletic DBs covering and speedy LBs flying around is going to be so much fun to see again.

Our center sucks too. Why not give Chinn a shot there as well? Kidding.

Chinn is excelling exactly where he is and he gives the defense flexibility. We got a good DT; now go draft an MLB. Draft another DT in round 3 or bring one in via FA. The better our dline, the more space for Chinn and new MLB to move and make plays. Looking at where we likely pick and some of the talent that’s out there, Our top 4 picks could result in staters at MLB, C, DT, G - not necessarily in that order. If that happens, we are in the playoffs next year.

I don’t want to make Chinn an LB. I don’t get the obsession with converting him to a full time LB when he does good work in his role so far. He can play OLB sometimes and that’s fine but we don’t need him to be our “next great LB”. Just let him be what he is and find another actual LB to be that guy. Don’t limit him

Why can't people be happy that he's excelling as a rooking, and is filling multiple roles as an OLB / S / Nickel, why in the world would you want to take that versatility and strap it down into one spot...

We need to sign / draft a MLB, all things considered we will have a good bit of cap as we move forward, I expect us to foster a early QB in the next two seasons as well. Allowing us to have talent at that spot without the cost, so we can field the best team around that type of situation.

Simply, be happy that we traded up for a guy that is actually good, and recognized across the league.

Chinn is playing well at both OLB and SS.  If Franklin start balling out at SS, I wouldn’t mind moving Chinn to OLB full time and Shaq to MLB and get that bum Whitehead on the bench but issue here is Shaq gets bullied at OLB cause he’s a smaller dude.  Our LB Corp next year might be Shaq-Draft pick-Chinn.
