Draft Position Watch (Week 9 edition)

Unfortunately, two of the teams with higher SOS are at the top. Reminds me of the Burns draft where we lost all the tiebreakers and NO giving us the last game dropped us so many pics. While we still got lucky that Atlanta, Washington and New York suck at drafting and got Burns, it cost us pick 77 since Marty wouldn’t have had to spaz trade up for Little. He could have just wasted only pick 40 on Little instead of two picks.

Forget about the breakers im taking about pure wins and losses. The Jets and Jags are a bit hopeless but all those other teams I could see getting 4-5 wins

Cincy holds a big key to our draft. They play Washington, Dallas, Giants and Houston. Washington plays us, Detroit, Cincy and Dallas. Dallas plays Washington, Cincy, Minnesota and Giants. Giants play Cincy and Dallas. Houston plays NE, Cincy and Detroit. NE plays Houston, Jets and Chargers. Chargers play Denver, NE, Jets and Atlanta. Atlanta only plays the Chargers and unfortunately have a really tough remaining schedule. We play Washington, Minnesota, Detroit and Denver.

Our best path is to lose out but realistically we need a few teams to go on mini runs. It would be best for Cincy to win a few or the Giants to do the same. A round robin where everyone wins 1 or 2 doesn’t help.

So #9 right now?

Texans, Bengals, & Chargers could crank some wins out so maybe #6.

But the other thing if there has to be one of the 3 NFCE teams that beats the others up enough to be like 6-10.  So at best #5 (not wishing for losses but realistically, I think that's the highest we'll pick without a trade up)

We're at #9 right now. Teams ahead of us:

1. NY Jets

2. Jacksonville

3. Dallas

4. NY Giants

5. Washington

6. LA Chargers

7. Houston ---> Miami

8. Cincinnati

Of those teams, Jets and Jags are 100% taking QBs.

Dallas, probably not I think they stick with Dak.

Giants, maybe? but I'd guess not, they have too many holes elsewhere and while Jones hasn't been great I think he's shown enough that they don't give up on him quite yet.

Washington, I would think they go QB, but they also have a ton of holes and I'm not 100% sure Rivera doesn't want to just keep building up the D and roll with Alex Smith until another FA QB comes along or they draft one later on.

Chargers, Dolphins and Bengals are 100% not taking QBs (though another team could trade up to one of those spots to nab a QB).

That gives us a chance to get one of the top 4 QBs even at 9, but there's also a chance all 4 are gone by then. I think we'd probably have to trade up to get a QB that we're targeting if we want one. Lawrence/Fields are almost 100% certainly going 1st and 2nd overall, and I don't see us trading up that high or getting that high of a pick so we can probably rule them out. Lance/Wilson would seem to be the options. I like both of them with no real preference at this point, though I may lean Wilson based on recency bias. With either of those 2, I think we'd have to 100% commit to having them learn behind Teddy for at least a full season, maybe 2 through the end of Teddy's contract. That would do wonders in the long run and could have us set at QB for the next decade plus.
