Hurney nails first round pick again.

We got really lucky on Burns. Washington reaching for Haskings, Giants reaching for Jones and Atlanta taking a guard all before Burns was a wonderful stroke of luck, especially since @Verge said that Little was our backup plan and he was 100% correct on our love of Little. Sometimes you just get lucky.

That said, we all loved that pick. Was the only pick we universally loved in the draft threads. His combine was fun to watch, almost a polar opposite of Little. I mean, I just still don't get how an objective (not in love) GM could watch how smooth and fluid Burns was and how not Little was compared to the rest of the OL in his range. To even put them close together to make Little your fall back is criminal. Burns is just so much better and has so much upside.

Too bad we basically flubbed the entire rest of that draft. What a draft it could have been had Hurney not fallen in love with Little and Grier or had he not just read the PFF rankings where Grier and Little were all stars. We had some solid guys like Taylor, McCoy, Evans and Crosby in for private visits that went in that 2nd to 4th round area where we parlayed 3 day 3 picks and our early 4th into Little, Grier and Miller. Throw in 2 more of those guys (could have been 3 since Crosby went after Grier SMH). Even just Burns, McCoy and Crosby and 2019 draft is epic.

I liked the Burns pick at the time.  At the start of this year, I was on the verge of thinking we needed to trade him to a 3-4 team for both our best interests and his.

Then it happened.  Wow, did he break through!

His lackluster look last year was most likely due to our previous coaching regime's stellar reputation and process for developing young talent.
