Next year is wide open in many ways

1st the cap; With the cap dropping next year (and most of our dead money gone), many vets and some good players will be available and at the right price because a lot of teams will have no choice but to clean house (Saints and Falcons to name a few).

2nd, FA will determine who we draft. We might have to get a few stop gap vets to let the draft play out and grab 2 to 3 future stars (like Brown, Gross-Matos and Chin). There will be some good players available and most teams will not have the money to throw at players.

3rd: When we draft, it's gonna surprise us little like not taking Isaiah Simmons from Clemson (who I wanted) but they had Chin lined up who is looking even better.

We need at least 1 of everything; OL, TE, DL, LB, DB and probably WR (as we use so many). Not RB or QB unless it's Trevor or Fields, but I don't see us picking that high with us giving up draft picks to get them. Plus QB is a crap shoot - look at Rosen (average), Darnold (good, not great) Josh Allen (better, not great)- all not worth building around - all recent high picks.

Each (Draft or FA);

OL - 2 at least but a strong Center (big priority) and either Guard or Tackle (which depends on what happens with Okung and Moton).

TE (I would love to see this drafted in the 2nd or 3rd and developed but who knows.

WR - with OC Brady, you can never have too many but we do need a quick bigger framed WR for the red zone.

DL - I see this more as a FA signing as they usually take a year or so to develop and good DL can play solid close to 30.

LB - MLB to be specific (we were spoiled with Luke) but we need a general who can make plays.

CB - This might be a FA and a high draft pick as it's becoming a quick pass league.

Safety - Tre is not having a great year and Burris got hurt so I can see this being an area of need.

Based on this year, with a couple of good signings and a decent draft, we are fighting for that last playoff spot next year. If all goes well, we make the playoffs and put the NFC south on notice. 2022 is our year to start of command of the NFC South for the foreseeable future.

Not missing on a starting center and MLB is critical and are the two minimum upgrades we need to really take a next step forward with Matt's staff.  Guard is an absolutely needed upgrade but I'd like to think we can target a vet or look in the mid rounds for one.

It's also open in respect of not absolutely needing to go QB R1, but if we fall for one of Fields, Wilson, Lance, & Trask, we could have our new QB at hand if we're sitting there with one we covet available.  I'd be okay with trading up just a tad ~3 spots if we're in the 7-10 range.

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
