Here are the QBs who've won a Super Bowl since the Panthers entered the league.

"Within the context" of their most successful seasons, "grown-ups" pick Teddy over which one?

Troy Aikman
Brett Favre
John Elway
Kurt Warner
Trent Dilfer
Tom Brady
Brad Johnson
Ben Roethlisberger
Peyton Manning
Eli Manning
Drew Brees
Aaron Rogers
Joe Flacco
Russell Wilson
Nick Foles
Patrick Mahomes

Yeah, this is bad. The two that you wouldn't take over Bridgewater, their titles are over 18 years old. They legit had two of the best defenses in NFL history. So yeah, they do not count. Not even remotely. Not in 2020, when defense is an option half the fuging time.

Trending down still. If he doesn't pick it up in Nov/Dec the Panthers will look to upgrade.

I'm pretty sure they're upgrading regardless. That'll be a disaster if they don't try to.

Panthers picked a bad year to sign Teddy, and be sort of average. Should've started shitty Grier, and gotten a better QB. Rhule and company have proven how good they are. They could legit win a game or two with Grier at QB, and that would've sufficed.

You seem to be ignoring the catastrophic knee injury he suffered (and bravely battled ALL the way back from).

Why are you doing so?

Because everyone knows about the injury. It's not like you're going to tell any football fan that Teddy Bridgewater suffered a terrible knee injury four years ago and they're going to be surprised by this new information. He's been on four different rosters since that injury. He deserves a ton of credit for battling back after that injury. But he's still the good backup/marginal starter level QB he's always been. Everyone wants to compare him to Alex Smith but honestly Alex Smith at his best was better than Teddy and Andy Reid and the Chiefs were smart enough to know they needed better than that to compete for Super Bowls.

I think the problem many people have is separating what a terrific person and leader Teddy is from his actual football talents.

Teddy is *exactly* the guy we needed after divesting ourselves of Cam Newton (and I am not here to re-hash that).  Teddy came in, provided steady guidance and leadership to a team in transition.  We really needed that.  We also gave Teddy an opportunity to show us and the world with a whole season of unquestioned starts that he was more than just Alex Smith lite.

We're not nine games in, and I've yet to see anything "more" than Alex Smith lite.

Teddy has served and is serving a purpose here as a QB who won't lose us many games.  He can continue to play that role until we do identify and acquire a guy who can actively go out there and win games for us.  We can turn the franchise around with Teddy, but we will likely never take it to the next level with Teddy.

I'm happy he is here, I hope he is here for a long time, albeit not as our starter.  I also hope we find a franchise QB to take us to the next level.  If Teddy can bridge us to that guy, and then become a Derek Anderson for him, it would be the absolute best possible outcome for the Panthers.

nice post BrianS.   not sure what is so hard for folks to understand about what you just said.

Few who feel Teddy can be upgraded, if anyone, are saying anything different than that post. Not sure what is so different there.

that's not the impression i'm getting from reading.  a lot of people seem to think they need to prove that point over and over and over and over, to the extent of seeing every single play thru a lens that just proves to them even more that they need to hammer it home over and over and over.  its stupid

The roster movement was dictated by the injury --- not a lack of, or only marginal, playing ability.

You consistently conflate roster movement with your biased take on Teddy's ability (or lack thereof in your opinion).

You're just not willing to give the guy a fair shake....why is that?  Huggin' dem nutz?

He's getting his fair shake right now. He's just not good enough. Some of y'all are just so thrilled that Cam is gone that you don't even care if we actually win or not. Just so long as you don't have to watch a QB signal first downs and hand balls to kids you don't really care if the QB facilitates winning or not.

Just face it, we'd almost certainly have the same record if Kyle Allen was still our QB. Teddy at QB has almost certainly yielded zero additional wins.

Didn't he get a fair shake last year and again this season?   How much time does he need to show you he is what he is.  Its not magically getting better the rest of the year

Rhule didn’t bring Teddy in for just this year LOL. He got a QB that he and Brady know they can build a great team around. It isn’t about wins this year. If you cannot see the the chemistry being built with this roster then you need to change glasses. I can’t wait til this time next year when additional adjustments are in place. The painting will be much easier for a lot of people to see the picture.

He didnt bring him in for 1 year.  He brought him in for 2 and his contract reflects it.
