Even then, I think it was very risky.

Lets say they had zero faith in the kicker. They could have milked the clock with kneel downs and then tried for two endzone pounds on 3rd and 4th down.

The only other thing I can think of is some twisted logic in team image about kneeling (NOTHING to do with politics) to milk the clock instead of being competitive and trying to score. In that case, what was wrong with the QB sneak and fall down to milk time off the clock and avoid not looking competitive? Matt Ryan wouldn't even have to pretend to be acting soft.
