There is no practical distinction between 'can't' and 'doesn't', as the in-game result is the same. If he can then he needs to in order to elevate his game.

Ability and willingness to throw downfield are two different things.

Teddy is a variation of Alex Smith.

There is absolutely a difference, and we are seeing it.

No there isn't - one throw means little. It was a good one for sure, but it takes more to prove otherwise and buck the tendency that I'm sure defenses have picked up on. The throw this week says 'don't blow coverages', not necessarily 'Teddy will push it downfield'.

Teddy's arm appears average thus far and the comparison to Alex Smith has been my opinion since his rookie year, as well as what I've stated several times here since he signed. It's on his performance to prove otherwise since it's his performance that led to that conclusion in the first place.

I don't think there are many deep routes being run. Maybe this is by design. Maybe its because he's not good at it or maybe because they don't think the protection is there. Regardless it's not like he's refusing to do it or trying and not able to. So yes, there is obviously a distinction.

If we had a QB that could consistently stretch the field with the speed we have.  We would be as high scoring as any team in the NFL.  Anderson, Moore and Samuel all have excellent speed and with CMC causing teams to focus on him.  This creates a lot of 1 on 1.   Anderson, Moore and Samuel have all shown the ability to win in contested one on one matchups.

Moore was wide open and had to slow down to catch this.  I good QB hits him on a dead run and no chance to catch him.

I like TB but to say he throws the deep ball off of one pass is ridiculous.

So if he threw the same pass one second sooner it would have been perfect? Sounds more like a timing issue than not being able to throw it deep.

After 9 years the Panthers finally have a coaching staff that recognizes the physical limitations of our often overmatched OL and adjusts their play calling accordingly.

Now, posters that have spent the better part of a decade complaining about our OL not providing decent QB protection have shifted their ire to TB for NOT doing the very thing that exposes the weakness of our OL.

It is almost as if some people can't allow themselves to be happy.

Tom Brady’s arm talent has always been fairly average.   Even during the Randy Moss show.

Arm strength is overrated IMO.   Teddy’s arm is fine.  His accuracy and decision making is good.

The real Teddy complaint is people merely want more gunslinger/gambling in his play.  Which is the Alex Smith complaint.

I thought the throw was what it needed to be. Yes, DJ had to slow slightly but when the guy is that wide open you aren’t trying to lead him to the point he might have to dive, you need to make sure you get it to him. Remember the throw to DJ the previous week where DJ was wide open and he had to move awkwardly to attempt the catch? We all said, well those of us who were critical of Teddy on the play, is that all he needed to do was get it there. Not overthrow it. I feel like he learned from that.

That being said... nobody said Teddy couldn’t get a ball past 40 yards through the air.

Greg Hardy used too.... Dan Morgan after his playing day's I'm sure there were/are others.

I wish Hardy didn’t go the path he did. Somebody like Hardy and Burns starting at DE with YGM coming in to give them a breather here and there would have been awesome to see.
