Is Teddy competitive enough?

I know it's an adjustment to me. I don't mind the sideline gimmick, I though it was funny. And three and a half quarters out of four of a football game, I'd have no issue with it whatsoever. But I don't know. On a game-winning-or-losing drive, I think I'd rather see my QB get back to the huddle with his own players instead of joking around with Brees. But that's just his game. He's chill. He's gonna have fun regardless of the situation, and truth be told, he still got the next play off with 10 seconds left on the play clock. So I'm all on board with him playing the game his way.

 

I do, however, wonder if it's going to lead to a clash of personalities in the locker room. Rhule seems very high-strung, businesslike, and seems to want to have an air of urgency on his team and on the sideline.

Very different. One very stressed, one chill to the point of coming off as dismissive. And I do wonder if Rhule with want him to be a little more serious as the season progresses.

Different personality types, but I don't doubt Teddy's competitiveness at all.

Yeah I personally didn’t like what he did. It didn’t piss me off or make me mad I rolled my eyes like wtf. I get that everyone is different but he hasn’t had a history of winning games come from behind in the 4th quarter. It rubbed me the wrong way. This isn’t the same as Cam celebrating or laughing/cutting up on the sidelines. He did that when we were winning. That dude was all business in the game winning situations and HATED losing so much that he sulked and was hard to be around after losses.
 

I said before that I wanted a franchise qb that hated to lose as much or more than he liked to win. I don’t really see that with teddy. There isn’t a sense of urgency or care. Doesn’t mean he can’t win his way I get it. Some guys have won it all that way. Joe Flacco comes to mind. But the greats weren’t like that. Someone mentioned Joe Montana and the John Candy moment. I grew up in the Bay Area and that was a commonly talked about thing with Joe. That was a tactic he used to calm his teammates down in big moments and take a breath. But Joe HATED losing and everyone knew that. Montana couldn’t stand Young taking his spot. Even publicly rooted for the Chargers during that 9ers/Chargers super bowl.

Teddy is fine but we should all want a better QB. Nothing wrong with wanting better at the most important position on the field. Better chance of success.

You got this from 2 full season as a starter? This is the same dude that I saw in college come into a game with a sprained ankle and broken wrist and put his team on his back. We can talk about the pedestrian playoff game but without him leading the team on the last drive, they wouldn't be in position for Walsh to miss the chip shot to beat the Seahawks. I can guarantee the locker room feels the total opposite from a group of people on the outside looking in. 

But regarding your last statement, and this goes for anytime, we spend so much time thinking that one person can change the dynamic of the team when in actuality, it is a lot more than that. I always talk about Mahomes/Smith because that is brought up a lot but if Mahomes would have went anywhere but the Chiefs, he probably wouldn't have been in the same situation as he was in college, a loser. Same in this situation, a better QB means nothing when, in reality, your current QB is the least of your problems.

Joe Montana was preparing to huddle his team in Super Bowl 23, down 16-13 late in the 4th Quarter.  They were deep in their own zone, and he spotted John Candy in the stands.  He told his team "hey look, there's John Candy." 

When the whistle blew, they proceeded to drive down the field and score the winning touchdown with about :30 left in the game.  Was his focus on John Candy lack of competitiveness, or cool under pressure?

Everybody handles pressure situations differently.

Not the same. Montana was driving and nothing seriously bad had JUST happened. 

I am talking about right after something bad just happened.

Actually, Montana and the 49ers were not driving.  They had just received a kickoff and, due to a penalty, we on their own 8 yard line.  They had put up a total of 13 points in 3 quarters plus 10+ minutes.  While nothing bad had JUST happened, nothing particularly good had happened up to that point, either.  Nor was there any reason to believe it would...except he had the confidence that it would.  Certainly nothing for most of us to note John Candy was in the stands. 

Dismiss it as you will.  This board is good at that.
