Get a franchise quarterback or build the offensive line?

Since we are gonna draft between 10-15, maybe trade back a little and I see picking a Center (late 1st) or possibly Guard (if we don't lose Moton). I would go CB or again OL in the 2nd or 3rd. I would even consider a great TE in the 2nd or 3rd.

If they go our a sign a great Center, I would be very happy too. If they draft between 5-8 and have to trade picks to move up to get a QB, then the rebuild takes longer, that's all.

Trading back from the 10-15 slot makes a ton of sense if you are building a line

If you wait for the perfect opportunity to add that franchise QB chances are you're not going to be in a spot to actually land one. Gotta jump when the opportunity presents itself.

You also might find yourself still looking 3 - 5 years from now should you whiff, and there are PLENTY of 1st round QB whiffs, while you're also out whatever you had to give up to go get them (ie: Da Bears). The opportunity also likely isn't presenting itself in the first round of this year's draft for the Panthers, which was why I mentioned not going QB if you have to give up draft capital to get them for a team currently in a total "retooling."

All things perfect with the books and positioning? Go get the QB. Got a team where the roster is going to be heavily churned for a season or three? Go OL.

I mean, in the end, I believe BPA is the best rout. If the QB has a late 1st grade and the OL has a top 5 pick grade, you go with the top 5 pick. Otherwise, the Panthers end up like other teams that are chasing answers at a position with lottery tickets.

Personally I think we should build the offensive line first. We have teddy who is good enough to win. I would only draft a QB if the right guy falls to us. No point in drafting a QB if there isn’t a good offensive line to protect him. I mean how many top Qbs had their careers ruined because they had a horrible offensive line?

All of them?

Fearing to whiff is a terrible reason not to swing. Yeah, there are going to be busts and steals every year. That's just the nature of the draft. Just gotta trust your scouting and IMO draft boards should be made factoring in positional value. Yeah, that OL may technically have a higher draft grade than that QB prospect, but the positional values aren't even close. If the grades are close and you need the QB and you think he's worthy of that draft position, you should take the QB over the higher graded OL. But I agree that if the OL is the significantly higher graded player you should draft the OL.

Money wise it isn’t because it’s one more big $$$ year that you get but pick 1 should be set for life regardless. Selfishly, I wouldn’t mind him staying. Playing for the Jets helps no one. Also, so you’re telling me there’s a chance!

He’s talented enough he’d still go at the top. Tuna went #5 with a very serious injury and he doesn’t have near the resume of Lawrence. Money wise even if he dropped to say 3rd, he’d still be on to his second contract a year earlier.

Now the decision to not go to a dumpster fire is more than money.

What has Lawrence accomplished that Tua hasn't (other than finishing an entire season..lol)?
