Get a franchise quarterback or build the offensive line?

We're in a weird spot.  In this system, we don't have to have a guy that carries the load like Cam did to be the franchise guy, but even the top guys over the last decade like Rodgers, Brady, Brees, etc, never carried that load either.  So, I look at it like this - we need a franchise QB but can win with Teddy, but he is certainly upgradeable.  So, OL is probably priority, but if the opportunity presents itself to get a QB you take it.  Otherwise, continue to reinforce the line.

A middle linebacker that can actually cover and then interior offensive line. I want to see how the rest of the season plays out before talking QBs.

I still stand by my belief that the lack of a linebacker that can cover / be the QB of the defense is currently the weakest link on the team. Add 75% of Luke or even like 2014/2015 TD to this defense and the Saints aren't converting 90% + of 3rd downs. They sure as hell aren't converting 3rd and fuging 14 with a half back screen. They attacked Shaq and Tahir all damn day and we couldn't stop it. Panthers win the game if they get an extra 2 or 3 stops on third down.

As critical as I am of Teddy, I think he deserves a chance and I want to seem more than 2 games of this offense with Cmc added back into the mix. Yes OG and C are a huge need but we've had a different guard starting each week it seems due to injuries and honestly the offensive line is playing way better than I expected. They show flashes and the offensive is putting up points and moving the ball.

On the other hand, our linebackers are abysmal and stick out like a sore thumb every damn week. Good coaches (a' la Sean Peyton, as much as I hate him) are going to exploit them all day. Adrarius Glanton was by far our best linebacker today. Shaq had one good showing against the Chargers but with his contract you are expecting performances like that and then some. Other than the handful of plays he made in that game he has been invisible this season.

For the love of god stop using Brian Burns in pass coverage to compensate for Shaq and Tahir. This defense can't afford to not have their best pass rusher not rushing the passer on 3rd downs.

I'd agree, but if you ask most fans who the franchise quarterbacks in this next draft are, there's pretty much only two or three names you'll hear consistently.

With the system that we run though, I don't think you need that "Superman" under center. A franchise quarterback in this system is probably more like Drew Brees.

The staff shouldn’t care what fans “think.”  What they truly believe should be their only concern.

Jerry worried about stuff like that and as a result we ended up Armanti Edwards. What a boneheaded move that was.

OL without question. The QB wasn’t what cost us today. The OL getting beat (and the defense, but that’s another story) cost us. We need better guards and a franchise left tackle.

We’d have a Lombardi if we had a decent RT five years ago.

We wouldn't have been in a position to compete for that Lombardi if it wasn't for the MVP level QB though. Shula is the primary reason we lost that game.

This team needs a franchise QB but I don't want to see another repeat of what we did to Cam.  Teams with a good O-Line can cover for some of the deficiencies a QB like TB has.

I would focus on upgrading our O-line.  It's possible that 3 QBs are going before we pick and at this moment It appears we will be in the top 10 in the draft order.  We should draft O-line in round one if one of those quote unquote franchise QBs aren't available.

What would be ideal is finding that franchise QB in round 2 or 3.  That QB that falls for whatever reason and turns out to be a stud.  It wouldn't be the 1st time a franchise QB was drafted in the later rounds.

You always go franchise QB if you don't have one. I would say Teddy is not a franchise QB. However, if a franchise caliber QB is NOT available, no reason to make a Christian Ponder type reach.

At that point, draft your board. Don't reach for OL. We already have one bad OT prospect we reached on currently on the roster.
