Get a franchise quarterback or build the offensive line?

Worth noting that with a system like ours, a franchise QB isn't necessarily the same thing it would be on a team like Rivera's Panthers..

Kyle Allan just couldn’t bail Rivera and Co out when it came down to the end. Funny enough, it’s probably happening again.

You mean the ability to force throws, evade DEs, have ice cold blood in your veins, and be the constant catalyst for the running game with a shitty offensive line?

Rivera pretty much wanted a quarterback that could be the whole offense.

You don't really have to have that kind of quarterback to win in the NFL, especially not with a system like we're running now.

All based on our evaluation. If we think there's a franchise QB available, take him.

I'm not sure there's going to be what we would typically think of as a franchise quarterback available at where we pick in the first round.

There's a lot of season still to come and that could change, but that's where I am now.

Yep yep.

I'm against trading up but hey if a guy like Trask or Newman gets this coaching staff going I'm all for it.

Pakcers just traded up for Love (didn't cost that much tho) so, hey.

Doesn't have to be this year either. I remember last season Steelers fans being okay with Trading away their first and when asked "What if big ben sucks next season" they just replied "Well we'll just draft one next season."

Worst case we don't get one this coming offseason, Teddy sucks and then we just move on.

It all depends if you see "Franchise QB" as "1st round only."

A game is on right now where a former college coach didn't draft a QB til his 2nd (maybe 3rd) season and it wasn't til the 3rd.

No reason to think Rhule wouldn't do the same. This teams has done a great job of squeezing water from rocks so far.

See above though...

If we're not in a position to get one of the best three two or three quarterbacks available in next year's draft, do you still want to use a first round pick on one?

If they like the prospect enough They should get him.

llamar went 32, mayfield went 1... same year.  Russ was a 3rd round pick.

Evaluation is much more important than draft position. This is yet another reason why tanking is stupid.

I don't think that is what he wanted, it is what he ended up with.  I do think the Panthers tried to put a better offense around Cam.  They just didn't draft well.

Oh I think it's what he wanted, and primarily because that's what one of his mentors did.

Buddy Ryan's philosophy when he had Randall Cunningham was that he only needed Cunningham to make two or three big plays a game and his defense would take care of the rest.

Rivera followed pretty much the same blueprint.

Then why draft Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess?

I'd agree, but if you ask most fans who the franchise quarterbacks in this next draft are, there's pretty much only two or three names you'll hear consistently.

With the system that we run though, I don't think you need that "Superman" under center. A franchise quarterback in this system is probably more like Drew Brees.
