Why does the offense suck ass in the 4th quarter with the game on the line?

In all 4 losses the offense has had the ball with a chance to tie or win the game and in all 4 losses the offense has found a variety of ways to f*ck it up.  

Against the Raiders it was a 4th and short stop.

Against the Bucs it was a Bridgewater INT 

Against the Bears it was a 4th down DJ Moore drop

Against the Saints it’s a sack on 3rd down 

The defense is full of guys who should be on the bench, but in every game it’s the offense lead by a QB making $20m a year that finds ways to lose.

Theres a lot to be optimistic about but killer instinct isn’t something that can be coached or taught and this team straight up doesn’t have it.

Big players make big plays in big situations.  Our offense, unfortunately, doesn't yet have enough of those players.  Unfortunately, it starts with the QB.  Teddy is a GOOD QB.  I think in those situations you need something more than just good.

Teddy is an A+ human being and leader.  Unfortunately he's only a B- QB.

Edit:  And B- is *way* more than I thought we would get from him.

DJ did not drop the ball on 4th at all. That was 10000”% Teddys throw. Wrong shoulder when he was wide open

Anyway our problem in the 4th is we can hide our oline when we're trying to come back.

Last week and this week emphasised we can't hold blocks for long across the line nor handle stunts well. All season we've been passing quick very often because our oline sucked (something bitch about now despite how we rightfully bitched we didn't do it enough with Cam/Shula). When Teddy had time he's shown he's not afraid to take shots or hit more intermediate routes. Hell he even took a great deep shot in tight man coverage. We need oline. Bad.

Even against our mediocre defense when we brought pressure or rushed 4, Saints oline held up for someone to get open. We don't have that.

Raiders: If Slye had made that kick earlier in the game, the offense wouldn't have to be forced to go for it on 4th.

Bears: Mike Davis fumbled (after having some ridiculous stat of never fumbling) in crunch time

In fairness, Teddy did quite a bit of damage on his own against the Bucs.

The point is though, you can't put a loss on a sole player. That is one thing that one of the best coaches I ever played for talked to us about after a game once. One of our players was really upset that he was the last out of the game (baseball) and was being really hard on himself. Coach Kellum pointed out that there was a dropped pop fly in the 4th that let the other team score a run, an infielder errored and allowed a different guy to get a single that turned into a run. We had left men on the bases in more than one inning. I had never thought of it that way until he addressed us after that particular game. It really is a team effort in sports.

A poor example that isn't relevant. No one is saying elite players, or even entire teams (including coaches) don't have bad days or even just get flat out beat. Point is that good performances far outweigh the bad and that the job gets done more often than not when franchise-type players are involved.

Now, with that said this is not an ideal year. It is fair to ask these questions IMO but unreasonable to try to draw any definitive conclusions. The jury should remain out for more or less everyone until the season is over, but Teddy has the personal disadvantage of already having multiple seasons of mediocre film and/or production to overcome as well.

Because the coaches get all nervous and conservative.
 

Teddy has ice water in his veins...cool and calm under pressure.

In close games they should just let him be an "on-the-field OC".  He is smart enough to do it.
Brady and Rhule act like bumbling keystone cops when things are close late in a game.
Let Teddy run the show and better results would happen.

Disagree strongly on all points.

Teddy's good has far outweighed his bad this season. He's kept us in every game and he's bounced back from mistakes both in game and even the following games.

We've constantly seen all season how people act like any Elite Talent can work with bums.  Our oline are mostly bums outside of Moton and Okung (when he's not getting dinged which has been a problem throughout his career.). If ARod gets a pass when his best (and only real outside support despite having other functional enough players around him) is Teddy not getting the same pass for having an O-line, esp interior o-line where its been the most garbage in pass pro, espcially when you can just as easily argue this offense is only working so well because of him?
