Why didn't we just kick a field goal when we were down 30-20 and inside the 30 yard line with a little over a minute to go? At least we would then have a chance for an onsides kick rather than bleeding the clock down inside 20 seconds, going for a touchdown and not getting it. Seems that the logical move would be to go ahead and kick the field goal since we needed two scores anyway.

Sometimes I wonder if the coaching staff is thinking at all during the game. Like the 2nd and 8 deep shot to Smith when we were moving the ball and then the subsequent deep ball to Jarrett on 3rd and 8. Totally inappropriate game management given the situation and flow of that drive which could and should have been a game winning drive if it were handled properly.

I don't know about the field goal thing... we had to go for a TD there...

But the deep ball to Jarrett was the dumb play of the game... I don't know if Davidson called that or that was all Jake... but they've done that all year mostly to Moose and this game to Jarrett.

I think the coaching staff gets hung up on trying to do what they think the defense is not expecting and it rarely works. They out-think themselves...

Exactly. We were obviously having a tough time getting into the endzone. As close as we were, it made sense to go ahead and shoot for the touchdown first.

If we were lucky enough to recover an onside kick, then we don't have to move far down the field at all to kick the field goal.

My point is, by the time they got to the 2 yard line there was like 30 seconds left in the game and less than 20 seconds by the time they ran the 4th down play. They could have saved time, kicked the field goal and then tried for the onsides kick, something they would have had to do anyway even if they had scored the TD.
