Bucs trade Jets for DT

Valid, but that's not an easy thing to do even for stars. Only Eli and Elway have gotten away with it that I can recall.

Maybe it only works if one of your names starts with E

Those two are two of the highest rated prospects. Lawrence would fall into their grouping over the Darnolds and Mayfields, even Murray. Luck was another one who went back to school. That said, Lawrence did say he wasn't pulling a Luck, but it doesn't mean he doesn't have Eli/Elway leverage. It would surprise me, but if the #2 team or someone top 5 is somewhere he'd rather play, it's a possibility.

He’s a 34 year old NT that is likely in his last year before he retires. I know it cost the Bucs very little, but those are not the types of trades we should be making if we do make any. Anyone we target in a trade needs to have a long term future here, not be a vet on his last legs. We are not in a position to give away draft picks for short term options. We aren’t a SB contender yet. Need to keep building.

This. If the Jets were #1 and I felt like going there would damage my professional prospects, I wouldn't be shy about telling them that. Let them figure out if they want to draft me and put me on the auction block or take Fields and then I end up going #2.

It's a 2020 6th round pick from the Bucs for McLendon and a 2023 7th round pick from the Jets.  By that time the Jets might actually be ok and it won't be the first pick in the 7th round.  I doubt it but maybe.

The article linked in the OP for some reason is the only source I've read that cites it as the Bucs' 2020 6th round pick.  I've looked at 10+ articles that say it's their 2022 6th round pick, so I think the article in the OP has it wrong.

Edit: 2020 6th round pick doesn't even make sense anyways lol that was the draft we just had.  It'd have to be 2021 at the earliest.

Either way it's a couple of late round future picks in exchange for a 34 year old DT.  Not earth shattering.

Agreed...I'm confused because you keep quoting me and basically repeating exactly what I said lol.  That's why I thought your intention was to correct me on the year of the Bucs' draft pick.

For what it's worth, Jets reporter Rich Cimini says that the Jets are in "fire sale" mode.

Haven't looked over their roster so I don't know that there's anybody we'd want (and frankly I'd rather keep our picks anyway) but that's the news.

Quinnen Williams will get all the hype, but if he gets moved it'll be a for a LOT. I would hope we wouldn't be a player in that. FS Marcus Maye is probably the guy for us I'd be most intrigued about. I just don't have any indication that the staff is nearly as low on Tre Boston as I am.

*on second thought, we sure did have a LOT of interest in Kyle Dugger in this year's draft, so maybe there is indication after all...

Chinn is the same size and played the same position in college as Dugger so ...

Dugger is a FS. Chinn is a SS/LB. Dugger would be playing Boston's role in our D.

They both played FS in college.  Chinn played FS/SS/CB in college.  So they probably wanted Dugger for the same role they are using Chinn for now.

Just had an "oh, of course" moment

McLendon originally signed with the Steelers in 2009.

At the time, they had an offensive coordinator on staff by the name of Bruce Arians.

More importantly, he played under Bowles in NY for 3 seasons before Bowles was canned as HC. He's the DC in Tampa now.
