What is Jeremy Chinn

Chinn was the player this draft I had the most excitement for. Brown and Yggy both added much needed versatility and value to our troubled line, but Chinn added modern speed and physicality we've long ignored.

I was expecting him to have some bumps in the road, and he absolutely has had some hiccups, but for what we ask him to do and how well he does so without ever becoming a liability has exceeded my expectations.

What excites me the most is he's just scratching the surface. Absolutely adore this kid.

I am sure that given the chance, thank god we weren't, we would have picked Simmons too.   I know I was one to hope he'd fall to us.

I think part of the mindset of Rhule's player selection has been speed.  It was well documented that he wanted speedy players on both sides of the ball.   Of course, he only addressed defense in the draft but for the most part those players selected had speed as a good quality in their resume.  Even Brown has that quality for his size.

Chinn's only discrepancy was he was from a small school.  As you noted, we got the better end of the deal.  Chinn flies around about as good as any Panther I have ever seen.  I can only imagine how dominate he will be once he has been in the league a couple of years.

It's good to have an Army Swiss Knife on defense.  That's for sure.

Reading the tea leaves leading up to the draft, Simmons honestly didn't seem to be a huge factor for us. Seems like if Herbert was there he was likely going to be the pick, but when he wasn't it was Brown all the way.

Jeremy Chinn has had 316 total snaps through 5 games. Here’s the breakdown of his alignment per PFF:

Edge (OLB) 21
Box (ILB/SS) 105
Slot 114
Outside CB 10
Free Safety 66

I've been intrigued to see what the positional breakdown was, this kid is everything we hoped for and more!

Chinn is a monster and the kind of player we have mysteriously avoided for years. He is so dynamic it is just so fun to watch.

Once thr talk about Simmons lack of physicality came out I was off that train. He looked more like a blazing LB that had positional possibilities and not having that physicality was the kiss of death for me.

We got a Safety that can play LBer and NB. I don't think the staff needs to change him at all, keep his weight and flexibility and keep moving him around. Why tie him to one spot when he can do so much?

We did have the chance to draft Simmons, he was picked right after us.  We passed him over for Brown.

Not gonna lie--I did the math and figured Simmons would be our pick--or Brown--but a non-pass rushing DT in the top 10 is questionable.  I will also say that YGM is developing nicely--he too will be a stud if he continues--way ahead of Rucker, Johnson, and Hardy during year 1.  YGM is in a great situation, with Weatherly and Burns.

Exaggeration time? Now if Pride steps up and becomes a Norman-like addition, this draft would be comparable to that famous Pittsburgh Steelers draft in 1974, where they got Swan (1), Lambert (2), Stallworth, (4) and Webster (5).  Not there yet, but you never know.  (They also signed undrafted free agent Donnie Shell that year.)

I watched Clemson film and saw the lack of physicality---I dismissed it as an issue because he rarely missed tackles.  However, it bothered me.

Just because Brown isn't collecting sacks doesn't mean he's not having an impact as a pass rusher. Either way, I'd take a promising looking non-pass rushing DT second only to Aaron Donald for most tackles for loss in the NFL among DTs over a guy who can't hardly find his way into the field for a team we beat.

I failed tea reading class. :shades:

I'm happy with Brown, YGM, Chinn and Pride.  Brown needs some help.  I really thought KK would come back and with Burns and YGM our starters would be solid.    That said we have three of four players for our D-line for the next 4 yrs minimum.

I am a big fan of Brown though I've seen a couple (uneducated) posts that Brown was a bust.  He's only going to get better.

Chinn IMO should be at the top of "Steals of the Draft"  He's playing like a 1st rounder.
