Is it time to start thinking trade?

I don't see why we would make a trade.  Yes, we are playing well.  Yes, Rhule and company want to win, as they should.  But we aren't in 'win-now' mode.

The expectation for this season was to establish a new culture and hope our young players show progress.  And that is what has been happening.  Winning is icing on the cake.  No need to trade future assets unless we are getting a steal.

I actually wrote something on that topic yesterday.

Who's in charge revisited

At least for the moment, Marty is officially in charge, a fact which still makes me nervous even if the behind the scenes reality is something else.

Even if it's not muddy though, I really don't like trading away future first rounders.

And no, I don't believe Marty wanted to part ways with Newton. Per Jourdan Rodrigue when she was still covering the Panthers, both Marty and Ron wanted to extend Newton but Tepper nixed it.

The only way I would be ok with it is if the Panthers beat the 4-1 Chicago Bears, the New Orleans Saints on their home field, and Atlanta again.

At that point, Carolina would be 6-2, 3-1 in the division while likely being in sole possession of 1st place... At that point Carolina would have wins over 2 of the top favorites to win the NFC, with home matchups with Tampa and New Orleans on the horizon.

My point is I don't like midseason trades UNLESS, the team could win the Super Bowl. We win in New Orleans and beat Chicago, then trading a pick that would be equivalent to an early 2nd rounder is not a big deal to me. That's why Seattle is smart and never keeps those picks, you give the 1st rounder guarantee and $ for what is only 5-6 picks from the much more team friendly 2nd round pick.

Our best pick so far was a 3rd rounder, the 1st round pick is overrated unless it's top 15.

I don't see us winning in New Orleans, so I don't see it as a problem, but if were 6-2, we need to play for the division to bring fan interest back and bring a momentum to the team.

The funniest thing to me is how everyone raves over the value of these picks, but players picked in the top 10 almost seemingly never go for much more then a 2nd, even the really good ones.

Personally I'd rather have a really good player with NFL experience then a hit or miss late 1st rder.

If we pull that off...

this backup Saints QB that is paired w/ Davis.....will be in the exact same position as the last backup Saints QB that was paired w/ Davis was.

and I'm going to Vegas to put money on them losing the Super Bowl.

Zack Ertz would probably be available at TE. He wants a new contract and the Eagles need to cut cap next year. He could be likely had for 3rd-5th range but we would have to commit to a top of the market TE contract which run around $15M/year right now. Has one more year on his deal but nearly held out this year so expecting him to play on his deal next year would be a bad idea. TE usage in Brady’s offense is something else to consider.

Heard the Panthers are interested in Ertz.  Not sure how happy that makes me.

He seems to be the most logical trade target. Ian Thomas just isn’t good, he had a crucial drop on Sunday.

Where’d you hear this?

a friend that is in sports talk biz and spends the whole day on twitter.  not a source, he just mentioned it a few minutes ago.  Said he heard Panthers were in the mix.

I tried googling and the eagle fans are so down on him right now.  he quit on a play that led to interception.  so a lot of the chatter could be iggle fans wishing something true.

Yeah plus Goedert should be back right away which then pushing Ertz back to being their 2nd TE

dude wanted $70 mil in the offseason.  didn't get it and iggle fans have play after play showing he isn't worth much in trade,

i see it as not a "different" route, just a crappy one.  gave up on the cut, the separation and then shied away from contact after the interception.  Business Decision that we don't need.  7th rounder, maybe.

I don’t think I would like it depending on what the pick is. We would also certainly have to commit to a close to $15M/year deal and he is playing like absolute trash with zero effort right now. I think he turned down offers of $12M/year in the offseason and got into a heated argument with the Eagles GM about his contract recently.

I could definitely see Hurney trying to recapture the magic from the Olsen trade with this move though which is why I mentioned him as a possibility initially.

Having heard Eagles fans fairly often (one of my work sites is in south Jersey, when travel is not verboten), I suspect they want Bridgewater, McCaffrey, Brown, and Moore in return for Ertz and a fourth round pick.

Remember, Eagles fans were down on Santa Claus, too.

I didn't want to start a thread with so little to go on but it smells right.  Saw your post when I searched for ertz trade on this site.  Still nothing on google/twitter that amounts to anything more than speculation or iggle fans feeling sorry for themselves.  Which can take a ton of bandwidth btw.

This ain’t on Ertz, he gets knocked off balance and can’t recover in time. I’m reading a few saying that Wentz has been most inaccurate when targeting Ertz.

But yeah, I’ve also seen how he wants an extension even though he’s still under contract for next year. He’s already 30... I wouldn’t be in favor of extending him that’s for sure

Eagles just dont have the space to sign Ertz and believe Dallas is the better all-around Te since he can block well. Ertz is one of those Jimmy Graham TEs, WR playing TE and just gets in the way for blocking. Olsen at least worked non-stop on his blocking even tho he was "meh".

Eagles were in talks with ERtz at one point couple years ago and got close, then when they tried again Eagles lowered their offer. After you pay your QB and a couple others, just isnt room unless youre the saints and continue to push the dead money into next year.

Well now I’m hoping your friend also googled and saw my post and is using it as his source. I would love to be the source of a completely unfounded trade rumor lol
